Shift Lever Removal

1964 F100 Factory column shift automatic.

I am having zero success driving the pin out that holds the shift lever to the collar.

It is possible to break the collar so I am reluctant to to hit any harder. I have had PB Blaster on it all day.

Can I just drill the pin out?

the pin has a slice down the side so it may catch on the drill bit.
not sure if your trying this with the collar still on the column or its out
i would try pressing it out with a slightly smaller diameter bolt, a socket on the backside and a vice or c-clamp to push it thru.

i never had any difficulty with them, seemed they always came out with a hammer and the correct pin punch

This is one of the small things that drives me nuts.

The PO disassembled this truck and refurbished 99% of it.

So instead of fixing the sloppy shift lever, detent plate and replacing the collar, he disconnected the NSS.

The truck will not stay in park.

Now everything is painted and Im trying not to destroy the paint, but I need to get the lever out to see if its worn.

Im going to try and drill the pin out. If I can get it spinning, it should come out.

This is on hold for now. I can not get that pin out.

I have to much to do the next month so the truck is on the back burner until mid-May.

My suggestion....
When driving out a pin, the piece that it is in
Has got to be SOLID.... Meaning it can't move, or you lose
All the driving force...
Can you get a buddy to hold something on the backside
Such as a small sledge hammer or hefty chunk of steel ?
Once it can't move... The pin should break loose (hopefully)
