Battery cable routing

Post by charliemccraney »

I was hoping to find a picture in my shop manual or parts manual but didn't see it. What is the factory battery cable routing for a '61? Pics would help.

pretty sure the ground cable was to one of the battery box bolts top left
lots of the trucks i parted out were there
actual dimension and gage would be nice to know
mine are 00 gage
as for positive to the relay they are short cables so theres not really a lot you can do besides bolt on
also one from the top starter bolt to the hole in the frame across from it

i used a longer ground cable from the battery to the frame where the starter cale is bolted.

In the parts manual, it indicated 12" up to something like serial number 140000 and 18" from 1400001 for the positive. Negative was indicated to be 18" in either case, which seems long. I didn't see the gauge listed.

I don't see any evidence that a cable was attached via the battery tray bolts. Of course, can't know for sure that this is the original tray or has not been re-painted. Mine is currently like yours, with a long cable to the frame where I have the engine ground strap.

Can anyone confirm the battery tray bolt as the attachment point?
