Battery Tray Bolt

Post by charliemccraney »

I'm missing the lower right bolt, as viewed from the front of the truck. I found this in a '61-'64 F series at a junkyard today. It's certainly not your generic hardware store screw, and has a pilot, like many of the original bolts seem to have. It threads easily into the firewall. The bracket held the starter cable. Is this correct for our trucks, or at least a certain year?

i think so
i do know on the 4x4s and f350s where the battery is under the floor a few are used to hold the cables along the frame

Charlie, I have that bracket on at least two of my 61 unibodies, not sure about the bolt.

I have my battery and starter cables wired opposite. I saw in the parts manual that a 12" cable was used up to a certain serial number, I think around 140000, which I think is some time in '61 and an 18" cable is used after that. That could have to do with the way the solenoid is wired.
Maybe I'll wire it like that when I do the rewire in a few months. It gets the starter cable away from the exhaust, which is good and I'll be able to use my new bracket.
