Is this the original bench seat?

Post by Lancer »

Can someone tell me if this is looks original. The way it mounts is correct but I'm not familiar with these seats and was hoping you could tell me. I'm getting ready to send it to the upholstery shop but don't want to if its not the original. This is out of my '62 Uni. The reason I ask is the tubing and brackets on the top part of the back look odd to me. Like maybe someone did their own welding/customizing of it.
Thanks for the help.

The original seat cover would have had an embossed lightning bolt logo in the top center of the seat back.

not sure about that Rich
i have seen a lot of seats without
pretty sure the logoed seat was optional, standard with the custom cab
the seat above could very well be an original
there should be a metal tag on the frame somewhere

Sorry I should have been more clear. I don't care about the material, more concerned with the bones/frame of the seat. It has some very different build characteristics and made me wonder if it was swapped out for another. At the bottom of the back there are some interesting brackets/welds and such. Thanks for the feedback.

There were two different seats that I know of. One was bare bones like the one you have and the other was somewhat better. Can't really tell if that one is original but from what I see , it looks very much like and original one of the what I think of as the cheaper seat.

It looks like a slick seat frame. Tubular and heavy. I know the seats in the early 70's went to sheet metal construction. But what date that was I have no idea.

Here is mine when I was restoring it. It is a 1966 seat. They are the best that I have of the frame itself. I hope they help.

Yes, looks the same. Mine is all stripped down now. Now to paint and take to the upholsterer.
