There's no resistor on the fire wall or under the hood...... The wires run straight from inside the cab out to the coil. Where would it be?

How about a simpler question.

Do you have power to the coil with the ignition switch turned on? Or just in the start position?
You only have two things to chase at this point, Spark and fuel. If it doesn't have a restriction (stuck needle / seat) in the carb. It is probably ignition, bad coil, bad power, dead condenser/points.

Well be checking this today. I noticed the ignition is a rat's nest of aftermarket wires so who knows if the coil is getting power or enough power or what. Going to test by got wire today.

The resistor wire may not be pink t look at. Normally it is covered by a cloth type blackish covering. Ignition switch should be a wire coming from the it, that runs a few inches and then has a single plug in . The resistor wire is what is connected to this and should run to another plug that is also under the dash. New ones can be had for roughly 15 to 29$. Check voltage going to the coil , it should be about 8 volts. If the engine starts but dies when you let up on the starter, then there is another problem previously mentioned.

Was definitely the power wire on the wrong leg of the after market ignition switch. She is running great now! Brakes were kind of scary though.

Thanks guys. Say, this truck has a dual master and no provision for brakes lights. What do you think of adding an online pressure switch?

I just put a "T" in a line for a pressure switch.

I replaced the pressure switch with a simple momentary normally closed switch activated by the brake pedal stop.

But don't you have to fab a bracket then?

So there is a brake light switch fabbed up, and starting to trace the nest of wires.... I now have head lights, wipers, gotten, and all dash functions. I still have four wires at the ignition switch that seem to have no home ( all coming off the original harness) and two wires blank behind the dash. Also can't find the coil resistor. Have 12v at the ignition switch and nothing at the coil.... Is it under the electrical tape somewhere?

It always amazes me how the wiring of older vehicles can get trashed over time. Most often from putting in stereos... The aftermarket switches are also confusing when you can order the original from NAPA for probably the same price. It is good that the original harnesses are color coded.

Yes! The radio in this one is a real treat... Giant 8 track player, that they hacked the dash to install....
