turn signal indicators

Post by yellodog »

am i wrong, or does my 65 custom cab only have 1 indicator for both turn signals? and the hi beam indicator is where i'd expect the right turn signal indicator to be? although i have proper turn signal operation, i only have a blinking indicator on the left when the left turn signal is on, nothing but the flasher noise when the right is on. what i assumed was the right turn signal indicator appears to be the hi beam indicator? i'm going into the dash soon, just don't want to be trying to fix stuff thats not broke.

Custom cab only uses the single indicator bulb; however, it should light up for either turn position. If your front signal is working, I would start by replacing the bulb, although if the bulb works for one; it should work for the other. After replacing the bulb, you are likely back to the old adage; carefully check all grounds!

you did not mention original
if someone previously replaced the 2 bulb metal instrument panel with the cc plastic one but did not use the proper wiring harness jumper you may have a loose hanging bulb flashing behind the panel
i have seen it before

not quite sure what i might find in there, it's possible someone swapped out the dash at some time. and since the hi beam indicator is also green, and in the place i'd expect to find the right turn signal indicator, i thought i might be dealing with some repair/rewiring issues from a po. but if'n theres only one indicator, i won't try to fix more than one.

As Ice mentioned there is a jumper harness that connects what was the individual wires to a single bulb. I will try to remember to take a pic tonight if I have an example in my pile of used wiring. You can take the screws out and pull your instrument forward and take a look behind it easier than trying to crawl under and look upwards. The turn signal wires should be yellow and green, not sure which one is left and right.

You know I am a computer professional and still have trouble with posting pics here. I am not sure if what I have below will show correctly, if not try copying the link into your browser. The top harness is for a sweep speedo cluster the bottom for the round one. Note the connection to the single bulb between the green/white wire nd the white/blue one.

great, that shows it pretty clearly. in my case, i'm assuming i must have a broken/disconnected w/bl wire going to the indicator since thats the only thing that doesn't work. but i've been wrong before.
