New 66 4x4 owner

Post by moclakens »

Hey guys, I just bought a 66 f250 4x4 that has been sitting since 2001. It was my boss's dad's trap wagon from 68 until about 85 and then just an extra rig that was randomly driven for odd jobs.

It is staying at his property until I can get it on a car trailer and pull it to my new place. It needs allot of work, but I have no plans to restore it at this time other than patching the cab corners. I just want to get it driving so I can use it as a firewood truck and moving some of my things around.

The engine is free, and I tried to get it to turn over with the starter but it wont turn. I suspect the solenoid is corroded as it ticks but nothing from the starter.

Anyway, here it is!

Welcome from Nebraska! You have a solid looking start to a nice project. Looks to be maybe US Forestry truck by its color. Gotta love those original wheels, they look larger than 16 inch. You have the 3000 lb front axles. Keep us updated.

What are the differences in the axles?

I think it started life as a state truck.

Two options for 3/4 ton 4x4s. The 3000 lb like yours and the heavier 3500 lb. The heavier lockout hubs look like this:

Looks like an earlier 57-60 bed although 4wd's may have used that bed style into 66. Not sure. My 62 has the wrong bed style too.

That is one tough truck.

I wondered about the bed, too. Didn't know they used that bed after '63.

Welcome to the site. Keep us posted on that interesting 4x4.

4x4s except the 66 f100 4x4 used the late 50s bed untill 66
they were also made in a 9 foot version for the f350s, 61-66
63 was the last year for that bed on 2wd trucks f100\250
