New shoes for my 66 4x4

Post by moclakens »

I got my 66 moved to my new place and have started work on it. I got it turning over and am going to start rebuilding the carb tomorrow! But Today I got my new used wheels and tires on :)
Let me know what you guys think! (These are copies of a snap to a friend)

The new shoes fit the stance of the truck much better. The old ones looked too small for the height of the truck.

I like the old school wagon wheels
What are your plans for the paint ?
I bet that would take a polish & wax and look pretty darn good
I'm a sucker for original paint with a little rust , dents & scratches

Thanks guys!

I really like the look the way it is, I will polish it once it's driving. I don't really have any plans to pait the truck, but it has been under cover it hole life so it's not very rusty and this winter it won't be. If it starts to get real rust I am gonna strip it and paint it.

I believe it has 4.56s. Even with these 35s it's gonna be wound out on the highway.I would like to put more modern axles under it with a tall ratio as I am toying with the idea of putting a 6bt in it. The 352 is very tired...

What are your plans for the old wheels? I'd be interested in them if they are not split rims. Send me a pm (private message).

The original wheels don't appear to me to be split rims.

But they do look bigger than 16" wheels.

What is the diameter of those old wheels? :dontknow:

I'd guess they'd be 5.50" wide....which would allow for a 6.0" wide tire. Still pretty skinny by today's standards.
It goes without saying that the tire selection in a 17.5" size are also pretty slim..... which means expensive to boot.

Nevertheless, you simply don't see 17.5" wheels very often and are quite a conversational starter.

As discussed in earlier threads, the 17.5" wheels were an optional wheel on '61/'66 2WD and 4WD F100 models with a 5-lug, 5.50" bolt circle and also came with the larger front fenders. The 17.5" wheels were only offered with the 'innie' type hub cap nubs.

I agree with the comments above - I think the new wheels/tires look really good and fill out the wheel wells much better.

I like the look of the new wheels/tires combo!

What size are your new-to-you wheels & tires, 15" or 16" wheels wearing 35" tall tires?

How tall were the original tires, 30" or 31" tall?

moclakens,

Have you been able to put any more miles on your new-to-you '66 4X4?

Any updates regarding the tuning of the carb on the 352?

I sure like the looks of your "Ol' Battle Axe" 4X4 Slick!
