So while putting my radiator support in last night, I noticed for the first time that the 5/16ths NF cage nuts that we all love to hate when we try and remove the grill or hood latch supports, are the very same that I need for the trans cover.
I have been asking and looking for replacements here and elsewhere for some time.
Does anyone know where to get them or replacement that works without welding?
J nuts will not work, and the only catalog I have referenced wants upwards of 6.00 apiece plus shipping.
I need 10 of them between core support and trans cover.
Anyone with spares please contact me, I find a good soaking in a 10% solution of muriatic acid cleans them up nicely

These are what I used, They are NC threads, but NF are impossible to find new.
I just ran a 5/16 NF tap thru the ones where I needed them or found a NC bolt.
There are mustang venders that have them, they only need 2 on each Mustang, so they are proud of them.
These are on Ebay.

You can find the 5/16 18 at any Paint and Body supply store you can also get the bolts there and they look identical to the 5/16 24 that our trucks were produce with with the exception of the thread count. These are the exact same that have 4 little hooks and you squeeze them together to insert them and the nut turns slightly when tightened. I had to replace most of mine as the cages were rusted beyond use. I bought a box of 100 each. No one has said a word about them not being correct.

Re: cage nuts source?
Thanks guys
James,I saw those, they are weld in and I am past that point
ED yes they are in love with them and I especially like the shipping rate for putting two cage nuts in an envelope.
Skidoo, thanks for the heads up, I have seen those but did not know they would work, never even thought to do a paint and body shop search.
Thinking them to be an obsolete part, I was looking to refurbish any I could find.
