Added Hood Ground Cable

Was on my truck when I bought it. No signs of any past hood marker lights. Anyone else have one and know if it was a Ford campaign or not?

never saw one before on a slick

All I can remember on slick is a little spring like strip on top of cowl, near end of rubber strip on right side. Some gm used a little braided strap. The reason for grounding hood was to remove static from radio with the old am signals.

One comment on that grounding strap. The bolt on the hood had to be there to start with, as I se no way you could put one into the inside. I see no way that could have been installed after the hood was welded together. .

All: does this help reduce static in radio? Speculation by an electrical engineer friend.

I believe Johnny is right ,the hood was grounded to shield ignition noise from the antenna, you might not always get a good ground through the hinges. That bolt could have been inserted into the hole with a small wire, i have seen a lot of grounding done on vehicles with Ham, cb or other types of two way equipment on board. I have heard that a lot of new vehicles with computers can really be a problem to communication recievers, although my 02 Ford f150 is pretty quiet.

For what it's worth, my '78 F-250 has a factory installed ground strap, cowl to hood.

I have heard solid copper spark plug wires will cause radio interference. Would a hood ground cable help that scenario?

It would be worth a try, but you may have to replace the plug wires to really eliminate the radio noise.

Hood pictured is my F-250. Not working on the F-100 yet but I have acquired some 65 vintage parts for the project. No copper cables but I have been picking the memories of those in that era. The FE was taking off but the aftermarket parts for trucks were slim to none.
