Maybe we can simply compile the members with or have had Slicks with OE padded dashes by model year?

I thought all 66's came with a black padded dash, mandatory because of safety regulations and it was a standalone option in the other years.
In our family there is 6-66 pickups all with padded dashes 2-65 (1 is even a ranger) and both do not have a padded dash. There is also a 64 and 63 parts trucks but I do not recall what is in them, but I think they do not have them also.

Something you may not be old enough to know, but those padded dashes were required by law after a certain year as were seat belts. This all came about in about 1965 and 1966. I believe by law, in 1966 all trucks were required to have padded dashes by federal law. Before that law took affect it was optional.

I'll have to disagree with you Rich - I simply do not believe a padded dash was required on '66 model Slicks.

However, I'd guess they were a option that grew in popularity - as it was marketed/touted as an 'added safety issue'.

I am in agreement with Tom, ( Post #16, in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34027&hilit=dash+pads ) they were OPTIONAL with '61-'66 Slicks. Although I don't know what year the law was enacted nationwide, but I wouldn't be surprised if the requirement for padded dashs was a gradual deal where they were mandatory in new passenger vehicles sold in California first, then later in the other 49 states, and first in passenger vehicles then commercial vehicles...maybe starting in '67 with some models, being sold in some states, but as I said, I don't know for certain the details. :2cents:

i looked thru my box of titles for the door tag and title to the 65 f250 that i bought some years ago in Caney ks and am unable to locate the door or the door tag or title to that truck. this truck was definitely a 1965 that broke down in western ks on the road from california and ended up in a salvage yard and a picker that i know brought it to his own salvage yard and i purchased it from him. it was in a shed and rust free as you would expect. i harvested the cab and front clip and used it on a shortbed crown vic conversion. this is the only non-66 i have ever seen with a padded dash and i have never seen a 66 without a padded dash. i think late in the model year at least if not all 1965 trucks received the padded dash. i am sure more than this one existed. the dash pad was badly cracked on this truck and i removed, sanded and painted the dash. i still have the bed to this truck. the frame was scrapped when Johnson county was hounding me about having junk. i still have the california tag that was on the truck when i bought it.

Don't think they were required in 66, because I never saw 66 or earlier chevy with a padded dash (started working at chevy dealer in 68 when lots
were coming in on trade). Can't remember any 67 without one, any brand.

according to 1966 ford pickup trucks dealership brochure: "padded dash, windshield washers, etc etc etc is now standard equipment for greater safety. i do not have a brochure to a 1965 ford pickup. if someone does that would spell out if that padded dash to be an option in early 1965 model year when the brochures were printed or it came to be standard equipment later in the model year.

'65 body manual still shows the pad as a RPO (regular production option). That could have changed after the manual was printed, but I doubt it. Although some fleet and government buyers required safety items such as the padded dash in '66; there was no federal mandate requiring them. Even though the safety act requiring such items on '68 production passenger vehicles excluded light commercial vehicles, manufacturers provided them as standard for the most part; which accounts for the myriad detail changes between the one year only items on the '67 F-series and those of the '68 and later.

My 67 N-950 had a padded dash. It was in such bad shape that I removed it and painted the dash.

Barnie: I picked up a parts cab, it's a '66, dash pad is black, see info below, as per your requested format.

Not much in the way of good tin, but a few saveable trinkets, some donor panels for someone, and an excellent learning experience as far as how everything comes apart/goes back together:)

Model Yr ( 1966)/ Model Code (F100) / Dash Pad Color (Black) / Color Code (WM) = Marlin Blue/Wimbledon White / Body Code (B81) / Assembly Code (C) = Ontario Assy. Plant
