I basically got a free 5.0 today out of a 1995 f150. It has been rebuilt.
It is an efi motor but is speed density not MAF. I got the wiring harness and ecu with it, although the throttle body and several other bits are broken chipped etc.
My current struggles:
1) this is the ugliest intake manifold setup I have ever seen! Can I swap to something else!?!
2) is this fuel injection any good? Or should I just carb it?
3) any links to slicks with efi 5.0 engines/ builds
Thanks!
5.0 swap (1995 SD)
Re: 5.0 swap (1995 SD)
1) You can swap to whatever you want, from a Mustang upper to a "breadbox". the truck lower flows quite well, so I would not change it. Some performance advocates like the dual inlet for it's flow characteristics, but you can easily change out to a single throttle body and upper intake.
2)This is a quite efficient F.I. in my opinion; I wouldn't even consider putting a carb on it, myself.
3) just do a search, I'm sure they are documented. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a slick, IMO, any of the conversions on early Ford would probably glean the info you need.

SD isn't that bad it work. Sequential is better but both works. http://efidynotuning.com/ is a decent place for information about FI. Im sure edlerbrock has different manifolds for that motor but would be a little costly once you get new rails, upper/lower intake and TB. You should be able to get other upper/lower from other 302/5.0 vehicles just got to do a little research.
it is a 5.8 but still about the same.

wow! Thanks!
As soon as I am done putting the engine back in my 911 I am going to start on the truck.

If your looking for an intake swap, the Explorer intake is the best bang for the buck. It's the same internally as the GT40/Cobra intake.
SBC is a defunct phone company, not an engine option.
