223 oil pan info?

Post by unibody madness »

Is there an oil pan, that will fit a truck 223, that has an oil drain plug in a different location? The one I have is on the passenger side front of the engine.
The drain plug hits the rack and pinion on a crown Vic cross member install, even after insetting the member an inch lower in the frame. I really do not want to cut and paste an oil pan if I do not have to.

Yes, I think so. The pans I had were both center towards the rear. sold them both and have nothing to look at now, sorry couldn't be more help. they were truck pans though, maybe you have a passenger car?

All three motors I can look at are centered toward the front, and only the drain drip causes problems.

Yeah Brian, I have that same forward sump design pan as the one on the stand.
Is the engine on its side a 223? do you know what it is out of? That pan would solve all my problems if the oil pump would work the same

i have one of each. the truck oil pan was off the 223 I am currently building.
The other pan (lower profile) came off the 223 that was in my truck. That engine supposedly came out of a Fairlane.

Do you still need a pan? I will go out to the shop and take a photo of the one I took out of my truck last fall. The pan has a low back sump. If it will work for you, just pay shipping and it's yours.

Don't forget, that 99% of the time, if you change pans, you also need to change the oil pump pickup that goes with it.
Guaranteed that if sump location of the replacement pan is different, then the pickup will be different too.....

This is the one that came off my 223 that was in the truck when I got it. (I think it was from a car)ImageImageImage
ImageThe black one is the one that came on my replacement engine that I am building to put into my truck (was a 1960 F100 223)
Image

I NEED TO CHECK THE OIL PUMP FROM THE BLACK ONE TO SEE IF IT WORKS. ITS ONE OF THOSE THAT IS VERY HARD TO FIND. may steal it from the old truck pickup tube. and also the dip stick gauge is about the same length- but the handle to it is longer on the old blue one. at the deepest of the blue sump it was around 4.5 inches. The deepest of the black sump was about 6 inches.

the blue pan installed when the engine was in. It is front of truck to the right of the picture- you can see my axle below it, and front brake backing plates.

after I pulled the engine and put it on the stand in the garage. You can see its thinner.
