Door Hinge Pins

Post by matt2491 »

Are the pins in the door hinges supposed to rotate in the arm (that the door bolts to) or in the bracket (that bolts to the cab)?

I had an original set rebuilt by a local shop and noticed that some of the hinge pins rotate in the bracket and others in the arm. I'm not sure whether the shop rebuilt them wrong or if the pin is supposed to just rotate however it wants.

It seems that the pins should rotate in the arm since there is so much more meat there compared to the stamped bracket and won't wear out as quickly.

So does any know how they came from the factory?

I don't have one here to look at, but I believe the pins are splined at the head, and swaged into the cab bracket. If my thinking is correct, the pin remains stationary, and the arm moves on the pin.
I'll check in the morning.
