Are there any aftermarket hoods for a 65 F100

Post by stswartz »

Screwed up my hood today when it popped open doing 45 mph. I've been searching on the internet and haven't found any replacements yet. If anyone know of something i'd appreciate the help

AFAIK, no one is re-popping them yet......keep your eyes on CL, and on ads here on slick60s, they do come up from time to time. I'd have to see pics to have any input on weather yours is repairable or not, but you'd be amazed what can be repaired if placed in the right hands:)

OK HERE IT IS. I always check to make sure it is close. I guess i'm finally going to order the spring for the safety latch.

I've unbolted already to take to body shop and see what the damage is

Steve: Yah, that;s not looking good, and it also appears there were previous repairs on the passenger side:(

So, how did the roof fare in this event??

That looks like a nice tidy truck, sorry to hear of your problems!

Having one of those puppies pop up on you is a real attention getter. Good advertisement for doing the reverse hood hinge thing. I would expect damage to the cowl also.

While there are a lot of benefits to the "reverse hood" as commonly used on the slicks; the use of the original latching/safety mechanisms makes me believe due diligence is still required to ascertain that all is secure. US Body Source does offer a "race weight" fiberglass hood available thru Summit Racing.

I've got a couple of hoods but not local so shipping would likely be expensive.

luckily only minor scratch on drip rail above windshield. I was test driving to get ready to go to Ford nationals next week for its first real car show. It reminds me of a small show i went to in Pigeon Forge where a yellow F1 had a huge dent on his hood where he hit a turkey on the way to the show. Except i have no one to blame but myself

stswartz,

I can relate (the same happened to me with my '63 F100 years ago) and I feel for ya. :(

Luckily your incident didn't do more damage...I've seen hoods pop up and not only mess up the roof line but also break the windshield. You can also plan on needing new hood hinges..... :2cents:
