t5 speedometer cable

Post by jercasche »

It has been awhile since I have worked on my truck but I finally have the T5 in place with the drive shaft on order. My question is what kind of speedometer cable do I use for this setup. I have the old school end on the Speedo that matched my original (~5/8" threaded) but need to mate it to a manual T5 transmission cable. I figure I will need a cable about 6 feet long to do the job.

PS it is still a 64 f100 with a 292 in it.

mine was an early 1961 model, My speedometer came with a bell on each end which fit the T5. If you had the old T98 fourspeed it may just match unless it had the bullet end that pushes into the tranny.
I got mine off of ebay, item number 281059487626. Tell him what you are matching on each end and use your old cable for an approx length he will make one up.
Good luck and post pics of your set up!

Here is the trans installed. The only components keeping me from driving right now are the drive shaft and the speedo cable. The drive shaft should be here in a week or 2.

Thanks unibody, I ordered one from him and we'll see how it comes out. My original cable will not work with the T5 because it has the same end as the speedo but bigger.

I'd like to do a T-5 swap myself some day, probably behind a Windsor engine. I believe I read that the crossmember needs to be moved for the T-5. Does the swap require using the stock output shaft, and shortening the driveshaft? Thanks much.

Can't speak for other applications, but all I had to do with my y block was have a three speed bell housing adapted and have a drive line shop make up a new drive shaft
