Rust under cab

Post by Mojave922 »

I recently brought home a '65 F100 swb project truck. It's an Arizona truck and is pretty rust-free except for two spots under the cab. One is a lateral cab support under the driver. Another is a part of the cab that hangs down under the driver just forward of the bed (I'd really like to know its name and function, also on the passenger side).

Below are some pics. These pics were taken before bringing the truck home. After banging around on the rusty cab support, the metal was like Swiss cheese and sand and rust came pouring out.

So, are these pieces commonly rusty, and are there patch panels available for them? The truck appears to have been driven a lot on muddy roads based on the gunk caked underneath.

David: The Cab Support, and the Cab Corner "Outer" panel are available as Repops (reproductions), AFAIK, the cab corner "Drop Down" is not reproduced, so some fabrication (or a donor piece) is necessary.

For new parts, used parts, and donor sections, call Tom @ Flashback F100's

Thanks for the info jamesdfo. Do you happen to know the function of the "drop down" sections? I'm dying to solve that mystery.
