DIY CHROME?

Post by Gritsngumbo »

Has anyone tried this product: It's called chrome killer and you can buy a kit at Home Depot for $125. Just wonder what the finished product looks like and how it compares to the powder coating chrome. Seems like either this product or something similar popped up a few years ago.

Don't know if it's the same product but the hot rod shop we went to at SS last month was using some kind of spray chrome and it looked great. Keep in mind this was a professional using a pro level product. Your results may vary.

It will look like chrome but it won't last. Not too bad for interior trim but I wouldn't go exterior with it like they did at the street rod shop in KS we toured. Remember, they built a show car, not a driver.

I do something similar on model cars. It's known as AlClad. Very smooth plastic, covered with a gloss black lacquer base. Lightly misting on the AlClad metal finish (available in chrome, brass, copper, aluminum, titanium and several other metals) and once dry it looks just like chrome. Not durable at all.
