Scott Drake pedal pivot bearing conversion

Post by slickstysix »

Anyone used the kit from Scott Drake that converts the pressed in bushings on the pedal bracket to needle bearings? I have mine apart and wondered if it's worth the conversion.
I'm thinking of this one sinice my shaft is ok:

Mustang Steve has had selling that set up for years. I think he is the one that first set it up and used it.

Yup, I put one of these conversion kits into my '65 Mustang quite a few years ago and have been really happy with it.

After "sawing" nearly through the old bushings and pivot shaft from many years of use/abuse, the conversion sure made both the brake and clutch pedals work better than new.

Wondering if the shaft length and diameter is the same for Mustangs and 1966 Slick. Might give them a call

Called them and they said it wouldn't work. I'm sure someone here has made it work tho. Anyone?

Did they specifically say why? That may give you the direction you need to proceed.

No, they weren't any help. He just said "No, I'm 99% sure it won't fit anything but a Mustang. Several people have tried to put it in Cougars, Falcons and others without success." Sounded like a lazy a$$ response to me. I called back later for bearing dimensions and again he said "No, I don't have access to that information." Lazy....
I tried Summit who sells this and they said they don't have the info either. How hard can it be to grab a set of calipers and go out to the warehouse and check a few dimensions??

I did find this on Ebay:http://www.ebay.com/itm/252333877271?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT.

Contacted them and they said it would fit a standard 5/8" shaft. I might go this route even if it involves welding.
