Shorter steering column

Post by 66camperspecial »

The original steering column in my 66 was a little too long and the same with the 69 automatic column that is in it now,I was wondering if anyone knows if a mid 60s galaxie column would be a little shorter so the steering wheel will be a little more closer to the dash. I need to get the steering wheel closer to the dash to be more comfortable and want the column to be in the era so it will not look out of place.

Shorten the column, I took a little over two inches out of a 79 Ford F150 steering column that I installed in my 56 F-100.

Hoping to find one that will not need too much modifications to work.

Keep in mind that the closer to the dash you move the column, the closer it gets to the seat. Might want to look for the 70's tilt column or an after-market one.

I found it about 36" from rag joint to the top of steering wheel. It came out of a 63 Galaxie. Tom
