352 motor mounts

Post by Mojave922 »

I removed my motor mounts and didn't think to mark their orientation. I see that the threaded stud is offset relative to the vertical bolt holes that marry it to the block. So, should that stud be to the front or rear relative to the bolt holes? I had read on other sites of a "bump" that should be placed up but my mounts don't have a bump. Thanks!

Do you have a car 352 instead of a truck 352? I know the mounts are different, but I'm not sure what the car mounts look like.

Not sure if you can make it out, but here's my truck 390 and you can kinda see the bump above the bolt.

That's a big help. Thanks Corey. I can see the tab toward the rear and the stud forward of the bolts. The mounts that came with my 352 look like yours except without the bump.

Nice looking 390 you have going together. Is that a current pic or is yours running now? Are you running headers and an edelbrock intake? How do you like the combo? I broke a cast iron manifold tonight so that kind of made my decision for me about getting headers.

Thanks,

David

This is a fairly recent picture of my 390. I'm using a Holley street dominator intake, mild comp cam and headers. I'm looking forward to getting it in my truck and seeing the difference between it and my previously stock 352. I may swap my 4.10 Dana 60 rear end with a Dana 61 with 3.08 gears to help with highway rpms.

58-64 blocks only had the small unused motor mount bosses in Cory's photo. 1965 and up had all four. There are a few truck owners running early blocks and 1/4" - 3/16" steel plates with truck mounts on them. Years ago I slid my 64 engine forward and used 63 427 mounts. Had a couple of driveshafts made. Below is a simpler way to do it:

I do not belive there were any 62 blocks cast with alternator bosses. You will probably need to fab one to bolt to the generator bolt holes. One more thing on the early blocks. That foundry mount where automatic cooling lines useually bolt to goes all the way through the block. 58/59 did for sure.

Yep, 1/4" plate is what I'll try too. I'm relieved to know there's a fix. Was really worried I bought the farm with this engine.
