A really long time ago Fred Martin mentioned that he had a 70's chevy truck hood latch in his truck with a bracket he made. They used the same latch in the Astro vans, so I have two of them out in my yard. I am really tempted to go with this, because I need some more room behind the latch, and the stock one is in the way of the fan. I also saw a hood latch cable for a 57-59 ford car, and it looks like a smaller version of the parking brake handle except it has "hood" in white letters. I need to do some measuring, but this looks like it might work really well.

Sounds like a good mod. Keep us updated and take lots of pics for the "how to".

Re: hood latch idea
A while back I flagged a post on Facebook to follow as a guy made a latch release handle setup to lock the hood down. Preventing anyone from opening it. I will link it here, but if I can I will screen shoot his photos. It's a good idea and I may incorporate it into shipwrecked.

His name is Mike Pope and used a doorman cable which is about 15 from amazon or eBay.
Here are his photos of the work he did. I think it's clever.

Here is the cable. Looks a lot like the parking brake cable.

Re: hood latch idea
I think the 57-59 cable would be way short as those hoods were hinged at the front and the cable only ran to center of hood at the rear about 3 feet long.

If restoring a ford was easy, chevy guys could do it.
