Bronco gas tank question?

Post by 64 f100 »

I bought a new tank and sending unit for an 84 Bronco for my grandsons truck, and the sending unit has two posts coming out of the sending unit for wiring. Does anyone know why two posts? I figure one is a ground but have not checked this out with a multi-meter as of yet. Thought I would ask here and see if anyone is familiar with this sending unit.

Thanks,
Rich

I went over a little while ago and took the sender out of the tank. Before I took it out I checked the ohms resistance in every conceivable combination, and came up with one being a very small number. This was a little confusing to me, as there would have been no resistance at all if it was the ground side. I measured this at the sending unit. It turned out that it was the ground and there was a metal to metal connection that appears to be making the resistance. I should have said this was a smaller sized Bronco gas tank. Anyway, I got it figured out, and it works the same as other Ford sending units I've taken apart. If, you've never had one apart, you should some time. You will wonder how these things seemed to work for years and not give any problems.
