new member from so. nevada

Post by SAD66 »

I've just become a member and I acquired a 66 F100 last year that has been in my wife's family since it was new. It has been sitting in a yard for the last 25 years so needless to say it needs alot of work. I'm going to need alot of advice and help thru this build so I would any appreciate any input that I can get. The truck has a 352 engine w/a 3spdOD . I want to put a C6 in it. Can anybody steer me in the right direction to finding a compatable trans,(year, model, etc.)? Thank you in advance.

What he said ^^
Welcome to the madness.
Is there a reason to get rid of the three speed OD?
352s can be a bit thirsty and an overdrive can really help.
Enjoy your time here and don't forget the pics

Thanks for the replies. The reason for switching out the 3spd for an automatic is my wife is looking forward to driving the truck also. I will post some pictures as soon as I figure out how.

HiBoy63....no it is usually rain although I would prefer snow anytime. I am in the throws of completing a 65 4x4. Does yours have a frig bead or did you change the axle to accept the long bed from a 66?

I like the rain you dont have to shovel it. Staying with the stock fridge bed. 120" wb. I used the bed I was going to put on my 63. I found another one on CL for the 63. Are you adding to your frame to go with the longer styleside box?. Just look for my builds in the projects and you will be able to see what Im up to. You should put some pix in the projects forum.

SAD66,
How is the project going? How about those pictures?. It should be easy once you open a photobucket account, click on the botom link once you hover over the pic,and then copy or paste it on your post.

HiBoy63: I moved the axle back and will add if needed when it comes to a bumper. Early on I got frustrated with posting pic's and have not been back at it yet. There is two of us working on the 4x4 and it is at his house. If I get really ambitious i will start a projects and build post. Right now parts are in both of our garages. We are going to sell this when done to start the real project "1967 barracuda fastback". Both of us have a 65 f100 2 wheel drive so........we are going to build a "green" car. We can burn off all the marginal tires and help the environment.

Welcome sad 66 . A little advice on the 3 speed and overdrive, don't trash it without checking to see if it works. If it is in working condition, then save every specific piece to the overdrive. Not all that much really, Transmission , wiring to kickdown relay, relay and motor and wiring to Kickedown switch and switch. Be very carefull when removing to not damage any of the parts especially the overdrive selinoid ( remove before removing transmission most valuable piece). Unplug wires remove two bolts turn slenoid untill selinoid slides out of case. In working condition, the whole setup is worth some good cash. Now to the bad part, transmissions are fairly easy to find, although you may have to alter the drive shaft . Your present drive shaft bolts to a yoke bolted to the output shaft of your transmission. You can use about any of the C6 trannies for a truck, but most have a slip yoke . Easy to find 390 360 compatible pickup trannies in the 60 and 70 trucks. You will need all the kickdown specifics, find a donor truck. At the same time, get the column and power steering from the same truck. You may have to make the changes to the column to make it fit right. Automatic columns are rare for our trucks and go for more than the tranny as a general rule. Personally, I would stick to the overdrive, I switched mine to overdrive from straight stick. Might be better to keep for better fuel mileage. With automatic you will have to change the rearend ratio as the rearend is a 3.50 with an overdrive transmission. So, you wil also want the third member from the donor truck. Main operative word here is donor truck. Anything else you want to know about overdrive transmissions just ask.

Have a great day,
Rich
