Yep ... you're absolutely right. Thanks for asking and sorry for the late comeback.

It's actually been moving slow the last couple of months. Although, my Wife and I decided on the paint color ... Woohoo!

The following picture is of the 3 reds we picked out for a final decision. We ended up picking the middle one called Vermillion Red. It's Ford's recent/current? paint for bright red trucks. The other two are Ford 1967 Candy Apple Red and GM Redline/Torch Red. We seriously considered Ford's '61 Monte Carlo Red, but it was too orange for my Wife. We also considered the original color of Caribbean Turquoise, but since it's been called Big Red since 1980 that made the choice difficult. Also, you probably noticed the '61 Uni silhouette. I got 2 of them from Truckrat in the fall of 2010.

Image

The next step is to finish the bed repairs, then paint the underside and other areas that need to be painted before the body is dropped on the frame.

The body and paint are about 2/3 done and my guess is Big Red will be home in 2-4 months. Then are start the long and fun task of re-assembly.

All the best :D

I just picked up most of the powder coated white parts. I think the last white parts will be the 4 wheels plus the spare. Also, the truck is getting close to laying on the primer. I'll post pictures as I get them. :D

Thanks. I'm really pleased with how they came out. The shop does a ton of power coating as a main part of their business. I'm trying to get as much as I can powder coated, since they do such a good job and it's so much more durable than paint. :D

I bought the paint this week. PPG Basecoat (Vermillion Red), Clear, Primer and Sealer. So hopefully they'll be starting again soon. The next step is to weld in the new bed floor and paint the underside of the body. Still lots of work to go ... :D

Well, it's been a while since the truck has been worked on (since April). But the shop brought it up to the front area today, from the sandblasting area where it was being stored. I'm pretty excited, since hopefully it be painted by spring! What ended up happening is the shop got so busy with Summer projects (Woodward Cruise and all) that they didn't have the room and resources to work on the truck. Which I was OK with, since it's giving me time to get my garage ready, in terms of clearing plenty of space for it and cleaning it up. Then once I get it home, I need to put it all back together, which should be fun.

I should be stopping by the shop hopefully tomorrow or next week to start taking pictures again and giving regular updates.

All the best!

Went to the shop this morning and it's up front and actively being worked on. The bed floor should be in place today. They have a few small places to repair rust (hood, fenders, inner fenders and bed front panel) and then the bodywork should begin.

Here's some pics.

Thanks Nic ... I'm excited, since it looks like they're going to start working hard on it, now that all the summer projects are out of the shop. Hopefully I'll have a good update on Wednesday. :D

Since last week the bed floor has been put in and a bunch of other little things. They really made a lot of progress. It will hopefully be ready for bodywork and paint in a week or two, at the rate they're going.

Thanks for asking and sorry for long hiatus :(

The truck has been in a holding pattern at the shop since October. They started with the doors last week (a little) and are waiting for warmer weather to be able to paint the bottom of the body. It's been been -10 to +15 degrees here, and the body hasn't been warm enough to paint. So hopefully in March the body will be back on the chassis ... Woohoo! Theoretically it will be delivered to me in late summer, then I get to put it all back together.

The bed floor came from a 70's Ford pickup that the shop had laying around. I can't remember the year. The only real difference was the slope of the downward portion of the ribs are not as vertical as the original floor. Which all things considered, as in it was "free", it was the best alternative.

Thanks ... They sure are good fabricators. It should look awesome when it's painted. I don't think I'll be hauling anything in it.

Me too. Although, I'm pretty patient, since it's essentially been sitting since the late 80's. It's going to be fun to get it back together.

I just got back from the shop and the rust repair metalwork on the doors is almost done. Next comes the Hood, Fenders and Inner Fenders.

It looks like they're back in-gear on the truck, but still a ton of work left, though.

:D

Went to the shop yesterday and they made a lot of metal progress since last week.
- The hood rust is repaired
- The fenders are almost done
- Doors are about half done
- The inner fenders are rusted really bad, so I called Tom (6166 Junkyard Dog) and he's going to get me some good used ones. Thanks Tom!

It's starting to move along again!
