Started on the 5.0 today. Got the 2 new bearings in it, switched the timing covers and put the mechanical fuel pump eccentric on the cam gear. Did some cleaning and got the heads on.
I need to figure out some engine mounts, need everything between the engine and the T-5, need a set of dogbones for the lifters, the retainer, set of pushrods, and an intake.
Only 2 1/2 weekends left!
Anybody have any roller cam 5.0 stuff they wanna ditch?

I should have all of it, 87-93 V8 T5 bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, cable actuated clutch fork, lifter spider and bars, used pushrods, what else?

Just the T-5 Bell spacer shim, I think you about covered it.
Only other thing I need to mess with it the 78 Duraspark dizzy I have but I will just change the gear one it for the roller cam.

It was HOT out yesterday and humid while I was working on the 302. I was about ready to pass out when I got done so today I took a "break" and finished up a bunch of small stuff I have been letting slide.
Column & steering wheel are in, took the heater out so I could paint and reseal some seams, put on some small parts, covers etc.
I also fixed the parking brake.
With the Uni rear axle the adjustment rod had "issues" - one from the Uni was about 2" too short, one from the 250 was too long and so didn't have enough adjustment. I used the one from the 250 and just got out a die and threaded about 3 more inches of it. I decided not to cut it just in case I have to replace the rear cables some day and they come shorter.
I am now enjoying a little down time with a Margarita.

At a friends for a visit so I decided to check the board.
I painted the 302 before I came over though - It's Ford Blue of all things.
Tomorrow I will set it in the truck so I can get the towers drilled for the car mounts. I took a ton of measurements should be fine.
I will get the angle etc. set with a bottle jack under the rear of the pan - wish me luck these F 150 headers will work. I have no money to have exhaust bent for the Mustang shorties I have.

Car mounts l had set the engine WAY too high so a trip to the parts store was in order.
Turns out 79 F 150 mounts work great with the towers that were in the truck. l only had to ream out the lower holes for the studs, so the engine is in.
The Mustang headers won't clear the steering box , the F 150 headers hit the 2nd crossmember. l'll clearance the crossmember.
Will be back at it tomorrow, probably start with the sawzall.

Been an interesting couple days;
bellhousing and a few other parts arrived from Mad Max,
found out the shim between the engine and bell I had WON'T work with a T-5 bell,
drank beer............................
I checked around today but there was no correct shim to be found,
plan B.
The problem was the starter hole was too far down on the shim,
I cut that piece out, lined it up in the right spot and welded it back together - Won't fit my ARSE!
tonight I got that done, mounted the bell and hung the T-5 up in the truck. I needed it in place to make some final adjustments, take some measurements and mark the floor for the shifter hole and fab up the tranny mount and the setup for the shifter cable.
After I spend some time under it with the tape measure tomorrow it's off to the junkyard for a driveshaft.
Lot of stuff to get done in 3 evenings and 1 weekend - wish me luck!

Now that the 64 won't be making SS even with short cuts I went back to doing more of a detailed job on it again. Was back cleaning up the toeboard for paint - drivers side isn't painted yet.
I set it back on the ground yesterday to make sure the carb plate angle etc. is going to be right. The T-5 is presently being supported with a 2x4 and a couple C clamps, lol.
It will stay on the ground until next weekend likely. Need to pull the tranny and bell to install the clutch components and cut the shifter hole. Next will be fabbing up the tranny cross member unless I find something I like at the junkyard that I can just modify a little. It will either need to clear the exhaust or the pipes will have to have a dip in them under or over it.
Installed the carb and modded the linkage to work with the carb height on the 5.0 and clear the aircleaner (I just bent it a little).
Cleaned up some parts, had a couple beers.
I have the fenders resting on the core support & rear mounts with a couple bolts dropped in them and the hood lock installed.
Starting to look like a truck again (have new wallpaper on my phone now too, lol).
For some reason I can't get the last 6 or so pics off my camera to load into the puter - was hoping to post a few pics.
It's nice to be able to work on it again in a more relaxed fashion - the last few weeks have been more like cramming for a test than the way I enjoy doing this.

Finally got the pics reloaded along with some new ones.
Some previously promised pics................

Engine in - test fitting headers which are from a 70s F 150 with a 302.

Headers painted and installed along with a few other items. Tranny is also in but only a mockup for measurements at this time, no clutch assembly in the bellhousing.
This aircleaner may not stay on here but I had it and the filter is clean.

Starting to look like a truck again.
Fenders are just hung on with a couple bolts dropped in so I can lock up the engine compartment.

Good shot of the stance in this pic.

Been too long since I posted on here.
I haven't been letting it just sit though. Touched up the paint on the headers and a couple other things.
I mostly have been collecting parts for the next build session on it. I'll put it in the garage after the Uni leaves and get back at it. I'll probably weld the patch in the roof while it's in there too.
More to come...............................

The 64 is now in the garage.
Now I can get back to work on it. Aside from having it road ready next spring here is the list for the winter;
Get the engine & T-5 buttoned up.
All of the front clip pieces are going to a sandblaster for a good cleaning.
They of course will be primed and painted (the outsides will stay primer for abit though).
Reassembly with all stainless hardware.
Make up the removable center section for the cross member that I cut.
Patch the rusted spot in the roof.
Make the tranny crossmember.
Install the exhaust.
Get the inside of the cab painted to color (I should pick one huh?, lol) so the interior can be insulated & assembled.
New glass & seals (have the glass).

I have decided the exhaust will be 3" Cherry Bomb header mufflers with a straight 3" pipe and just some turn downs just back of the factory tail pipe hangers - might be a little loud.

You'd need a whole lot more HP to take advantage of 3" pipes; 2.5" would be plenty with room for upgrades. I hope yer planning on an H-pipe for extra torque. :)

Nice build! If you need a cam still Im a dealer for most all cam companys. I also agree with the 2.5 inch exhaust and a H pipe. I would also go with some flow masters or MAC mufflers.
