65 F100 4x4 parts truck turns project

Post by HiBoy63 »

Well there I sat with some time on my hands and minus temps outside. So here is what I came up with. Ran it by my wife she just smiled and said its a good thing I love you. Now I have to find the thread on how many slicks I own make it two. Im going to turn this

into this.

Image

It will have a flatbed or short box styleside bed. Going to try and make it the daily driver by end of summer. I should have enough parts with what I have to pull it off. Now I have to find the thread on how many slicks I own . Another slick comes home.

With a little buffing compound and some wrenching, you should be able to make that baby shine.
Will be watching :D .
Good luck

Bed section from a LWB Uni made into a bed would be a cool option too - I think the wheel arch would land in just about the right place.

Ok Ive been doing a little quick body work and mechanical to set her up as a daily driver. Here are a few pics of that progress. Not alot of progress but some small stuff anyway.

The previous owners original homemade bucket seat. The cab had a strange odor till I got that thing out of there. Dont even want to think about what that was from.
Image

Raining and cold outside today so Ill work on the straight front bumper and upper grille panel. Have to change the trans cover and shifter as the 2 wheel drive shifter is not compatable with the TFcase shifter. Good thing I saved a few NP435 transmissions as one of them has a shiter looks to be pretty straight it may go better in the 4x4.

Hey Greg Ill have to give that one some thought. Im leaning towards the flat bed but right now all options are open. For some reason I dont see to many unis around here that people are parting out.

Just something I ran into after the 352 was pulled. The motor had 1 con rod that was a copper or bronze color. I talked with a reliable sorce here and he said that he had seen that in other Ford motors not necessarily big blocks. Any one else run across this and do you know the reason why? He thought that they were a test that Ford was conducting.

Image

The main bearings are all good and the con rod caps I can get off are good slight wear on them including this one. :?:

Yeah Greg they are pretty solid I dont think the floors will need alot of work. You can see in the pic on the passanger side that the bottom of the B pillar is rusted away and the step is pretty bad. I dont think this truck ever got to much loving care on the farm. Just asked to do yomen work day in and day out. Probably never saw a hose and bucket of soapy water. Im out to change that.

are you painting those parts by a gun or a rattle can? I really need to learn how to lay down some paint.

Yeah these parts are all rattle can. These are all front sheetmetal parts for the 65 that the motor came out of. Im just doing a hurry up job on them just smoothin out some dents not all. Doing a quick sand job and then prime just to get them all the same color. This will be daily driver till 63 is complete. 63 is getting full treatment. Im saving for a welder for that project. Just couldnt let the 65 be parted out and scrapped like I had planned. Sorry long answer to a short question.

Thanks sgettin This is just a quick slam together daily driver. Not a complete restoration. The complete will happen after the 63 gets the complete makeover. I just had all these parts that I had aquired over the years and thought I could bring something I was going to trash for parts back to life. The true 4x4s are getting scarce. My plan for the driver was to get a swb slick and do a restomod but plans change.

i think your right 4x4's are scarce atleast in my area. asked about a 66 4x4 1/2 ton last summer that was setting in the weeds behind the owners house. the old guy said he was "gonna fix it up" (yea right). the truck was so rusted it would be scrap to anyone but probably me. long story short i think the old boy died, trucks gone probably to the the salvage yard.
in any event keep the pictures coming will be nice to see the end result.

Ha Yeah a putting green with quick sand underneath. I got up in the bed to look at the top of the cab and almost fell through. Im going to trans plant that moss to my rock wall. I think it s good old Idaho type moss. Good idea on the wheels same color as the truck not a bad idea for winter running.
