1964 Ford f100 Custom Cab Shortbox restore

Post by skidoorulz »

I am new here and just found this site 3 days ago. I am in the process of restoring a 64 f100. I have owned this truck since 1978. It had 14K miles on it when I got it from the original owner. I had to marry his daughter in order to get it :D It has 95K on it now and was time to redo it. I took the first bolt out of it in March 2011, I beleive the 25th. This is a complete frame up restoration and I even took the spring packs apart and painted every leaf seperately. I am going to try and post pictures of what is done so far. I have a rolling frame as of now with bodywork in progress. This truck was ordered as a chrome delete Custom Cab and has a 292 V8 with a posi 4:10 rear axle and 4 speed trans. My son and I have done all the work except paint the frame. We rebuilt the original 292 and hot rodded it a little bit. High comression pistons a mild cam Blue Thunder intake and a Holley 650 4 bbl carb with headers. Other than that, my intent is to make this truck look original. I even welded the dash back in for the original am radio I removed in 1978. I kept the piece I cut out for the new radio and I kept the original radio. I also have the original wheels and caps in the pictures I will post but I think I would like to put a set of American Racing torque thrust wheels on it[album][/album]

I live in Montana and I do not recall this truck ever being driven outside of the state. I am working on posting pictures but am pretty bad at that kind of thing. May have to wait for someone to do it for me

Welcome from Washington state. My son has a lwb 64 F100 CC he is restoring. It has a 235 six with a limited slip rear end. He is going to keep the straight axle and maybe disc brake it. I have a 292 out of a 63 he may rebuild and up grade away from the 235. Good luck with your restore.

As you can see the motor has gone throug about 3 different transformations. I was originally going to keep the outside looking original with the original valve covers and 2 bbl manifold and carb and exhaust manifolds. Even with the bigger cam and higher comp pistons it should have worked fine. Then I found the shiny headers  and put them on. Then I found the chrome valve covers and put them on. Then I found the finned valley cover and put it on. But then I found the Offenhauser valve covers and then just had to order the Blue Thunder intake to go with the covers :D :D :D then the 4 bbl had to go with the intake. But I am done and the rest will look original with the hood closed with the exception of the Torque thrust wheels that I have always wanted to buy and put on something ever since I was 16.

I am about to get the cab back from the body shop and I ordered a set of cab mounts fron Dennis Carpenter. They seem awfully small and where they go through the mount on the frame the rubber is quite small. 1 inch in dia. compared to the hole that is 1.5 inch dia. Has anyone used these mounts? If so did they work out alright?

Nice work on the radio hole repair. I had to do the same thing on my 63 cab. I call it fixing the KRACO mod.

Please, for the good of your engine, throw that Fram filter away. I've seen more pressure related problems traced back to a Fram than all others combined. Motorcraft, NAPA, Car Quest, Wix are all great filters.

Love your progress, your work is really nice.
