my 63 tootsitoy

Post by slickmainer »

It's pretty close to looking like a 63 so i bought it off ebay. it's about 7 inches long. The green part snaps off (its plastic), and so does the grill and bumper, leaving the red metal. My 7yr old and I are going to sand it down and paint it however he wants. Purple with flames is leading right now. we might put some wood on the back and make it a flat bed, but it's up to him.

got the old red paint off with a small wire wheel, and applied some primer to it. My 6yr old picked Burnt Copper VHT Engine Metallic for the truck color. he didn't like the purples at the store and went with the copper. Should look pretty sweet. I also repainted the grill and bumper in with some Wimbledon white I had left over.

it does have a grill bumper combo but it comes off which is nice, and the bed snaps off.

yeah, the grill is usually missing on most as they were just plastic and broke off. We are thinking about the bed and how to do it since it's not metal, plastic primer i guess

Gregg, try the FUSION primer, it is specifically for plastics... It should work for you.... but as always, I'd try the bottom first, just in case...... just an idea....

It's great that you and your son are working together on the truck! That will make some great memories. and perhaps..."I remember when my Dad and I worked on a toy truck and he let me pick the paint! I've been driving Slicks since then." :thumright:

Finally done-lots of photos sorry, my son loves it and liked helping to spray it with the rattle can.

Grill in dupli-color Wimbledon white, body in Copper engine paint, finished off the bed with some carpet (bed was kind messed up from the old plastic rig that sticking up the back so the carpet covered it nicely)
