Valve cover racing

Post by Kid »

We have been discussing the valve cover race track that Greg has always brought to SS at his own expense. I am considering building one of our own but want to know if everyone thinks it is worth the cost. I will have to buy a trailer to haul it and I want to make sure I buy the right one to hold the track and all the other things we have accumulated for our event. I know we all appreciate Greg making the effort and absorbing the cost himself to get the track from Wis before and back again after. I bet Greg travels close to 500 miles with the 2 trips up to get it and take it back and he pays for that himself. I have found a 5x8 enclosed trailer and if we want to continue with the valve cover races I can build the track to fit the trailer or I can keep looking for a little bit bigger trailer. Tell me what you guys think..............Kid

What about building a smaller simpler track, that would race the hot wheels sized slick toys?

I would think anyone wanting one could find one of those trucks..they could be customized,Possibly a stock, and modified class? That way the track setup could be MUCH easier to deal with..

I don't know how serious everyone was about the other one. just an idea...

maybe a track for air breather racers might be the go! :P , I`d imagine you`d need a fair grade on it as they might not roll real well!, being so small!

ok 30 Days and only 2 replies so it looks like the valve cover races should not be included at the next SS.

if you build one it should be a fold up into the trailer type, no extra assembly needed
i think a 5x8 trailer would be fine

the races are a fun item and should continue

members with big trucks should be able to race oilpans :D

That valve cover racer that Norris is holding, had one hell of a paint job!, I couldn`t believe he was going to let it go in a race with Gary! :P

Norris had the nicest looking valvecover at SS3 and SS4.
There was also a real cool white one with a Blown Shotgun engine mounted on it at SS4.
200 pounds? Really! Not mine! Matter of fact, mine didn't weigh anywhere near as much as the boys from North Dakota's did. They filled it up with rocks. Talkin about HEAVY!!!
The Tank will be back again and I also plan to bring another one or two.
Planning to give the ol' tank a bit of a tuneup by then. The other ones will be a surprise.
Darrell, we are still wanting to race valve covers. Hope we still can. I'll be bringing mine. TR

sold the only v8 in the stable. fe's are famous for leaking anyways. if took them off to race i'd have to buy stock in exxon/mobile. old sixxes are way better anyways.
