Thanks John, I'll try and find you and say G'day at the swap.

Now I know I said I wasn't going to touch her until I had some other projects out of the way  but she is so dam sexy I'm like a 14 year old with a hot neighbour I cant stop looking at her
And I felt a bit sorry for her sitting out in the cold so I invited her in, gave her a tub and a place to sleep

While cleaning her out this is some of what I discovered

Now I love a nice surfy looking bird just as much as the next bloke, but I think this one had been stranded on a beach somewhere judging by all the sand I sucked/blew out of it  .

Good news on getting closer then! Not so good news with a styleside though :(
I've never been able to find one without a running frame and cab with it!

Not sure if you are going to repair yourself, if you are it'll be straightforward.
I can't weld, so farmed out the bed repairs and have spent well over 2k both times. Next time I'd consider importing a decent one from someone here on the forums and just 'drop it in!'

Yer I haven discounted that yet either leeroy. Did you ever get any prices on the shipping of one? My old man is a pannel beater and I have some very basic skills taken from him over the years, but I'm not thinking this will be a show truck anyway so repairs have to be functional not perfect.

I have had a few quotes on cars, but never on just a bed. I think the shippers would carry on about the bulk of it and difficult of moving, although all the cars seem to get loaded by forklift anyway?? Cars were $2500-$3000 east coast then all the + + + for customs etc etc (in other words thieving government ripoff costs.)

Beds on the forum seem to be around $500-$1000 depending on rustiness and the tailgate.
Seeing I've dropped at least 2k into both of them (and the current one was actually pretty good!) I reckon anything less than 3k landed and you'd be in front! I know the numbers look outrageous when its itemised like that, but we just DON'T have the volume of stylesides here let alone ones that are any good! So anything you buy locally WILL need money/time/swearwords and beer. Even if you're not welding it!

The green machine I bought from Alan had a reasonably good bed, but after sandblasting there were quite a few small areas that needed addressing that just added up to fix correctly (welding.) On top of that it took a year to actually finish the welding!!!!

If you do look at it, I'd look at bringing in 2 or 3 if you could and sell them to recoup your initial cost. Theres plenty of cab chassis slicks (UGLY!) for sale in just cars!

These 3 were the most time consuming (read $$ because I couldn't do them)

thats the seam and it pretty much all had to be cut and rewelded and the usual spot at the front of the bed.

hi. there was a tub on ebay for $800 .and it was rough.
I had a look at a local importer and they quote $550 per meter3 plus the donation to the ato.
it might be cheaper to bring one in as a trailer.but it would need a title.

Interesting! U don't have the link do you? I couldn't find it.

A guy makes them new for $295 on scambay, I was more teasing Alan because the green slick had one that I didnt want..... And now I'm thinking I want one.... If one came up cheap enough Id probably go for it.

I got mine from Hyway sunvisors http://hywaysunvisors.rtrk.com.au/?scid ... 5604616627 they are in Sydney, they make them new, I paid about $180 it comes with all the brackets & bolts ready to paint & fit, I think the guy on ebay buys them there & adds some to the price. I did a couple mods to make it sit the way I wanted it to. John
