engine swap in my 64

Post by rick64 »

Ihave just purchased a 1968 302 with a C4 auto behind it. I am going to swap in place of my 262 and granny 4 speed. i have found a coouple of places that are offering motor mounts for the conversion. My question is... Has anyone tried to remove the cross member that holds up the transmission? And moving it forward to hold a small block? If any of you have tried this. With or without success. Could you please speek up and let me know how it went. I am thinking of trying this myself. But if several of you have tried without success... WHy bother...

Thanks

much easer to just get one of these, that way you can offset the motor to the passanger side as needed. :2cents:

I am considering the same swap, has anyone used the item I listed above? If this is posted elsewhere forgive me as I am just finding my way around the site.

I have that very cross member in my 61 uni long bed under a c6 that is bolted to my 460. Although I did not install it, it appears to work just fine.
I believe you have to take the tranny cross member out in pieces because of its width, I couldnt get mine out to modify it but sliding it forward or rearward should not be an issue and much stronger than the speedway one. I bolted mine back and torqued the bolts to spec.

My dad helped me engineer an engine crossmember and a tranny crossmember out of 6" C channel. Just be careful when welding it into place as I later found out that is where Ford stamped the VIN onto the frame.
