wire clamps on firewall

Post by ICEMAN6166 »

early trucks have metal clamps with a rubber coating for the wires running along the top of the firewall

mine looked really bad, rubber all cracked and loose

several choices here none which worked for me

use (buy) new ones or get some of the later all plastic ones which i used to have a hundred or so of. oh well thats just sad.
went to the auto parts thought i might just buy some standard replacements off the rack but none were large enough and i did not wish to wait for an order

so after showing him the clip i had brought along
the owner suggested shrink tubing as a replacement for the original coating
so for $2 i got some 3\4 black shrink tube
cleaned up and painted the metal part after unlooping the clip flat so it was easier to clean to then cut the shrink tubing put it on the clips heated them up and they look very good for the time and $ spent and it looks close to original.

another part recycled for a minimal cost

Great idea Brian.
I cleaned mine up and used plastic dip after paint, kind of a pain but they came out ok
