Lowering
Lowering
How do you guyslower a slick I don't want it slammed but it sits like a farm truck. I know the no limit reverse eye monos are out there but I only payed 1000 for the whole running truck. So in he spirit of a true ratrod whatsthe cheap way out be honest I understand sometimes there is no cheap way. Can you flip springs to bottom of rear axle? Can you do the same in the front? Remove leafs etc. Etc. Thanks

I believe you can pull a couple springs out of the front and flip the rear axle? Seeing how mine is 4x4, I am not the guy you need answering you but I believe Greg D has done the lowering on his truck. come on guys and gals, lets give medic some inspiration here. I think they really look good lowered just enough to give it that "Don't Mess With Me" stance and if you go all the way, http://fordtruk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8995 , They really turn heads. greg d used monos as i did but he only use them up front you can flip the axle(put the leafs on the bottom intsead of where thera at now) and you will get 3" drop i was going to flip my front but was strongly advised not to by almost the whole group here for safety concerns you can remove leafs, use shackles, which personally i dont like shackles but you can also use a drop beam which is also posted here somewhere not to long ago he had 3 and 4 inch drop beems for the cheap i think they was 350 or so and 125 to ship to your door.thats not bad theres several different ways to do so
Like he said I used monos up front - I pulled leaves out of the pack in the rear. My rear actually sits lower than the front but since the tires are quite abit taller it still retains a slight rake. The monos ride great, you wouldn't have to end up as low as mine is, I have pretty short tires on the front of mine. If you look in my album you can also find some pics with a few leaves removed from the front pack and the same truck with 235x75s on all 4, will give you an idea where some different setups will put you.

the cheapest way to lower a slick is to flip the axle put the springs on top of the axle instead of the bottom and if thats not low enough you can take some springs out to get the right height that your looking for also the same in the back will lower your truck for you at very low prices
""WE THE WILLING, LED BY THE UNKNOWING, ARE DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE UNGRATEFUL""

cheap lowering
flip your springs in the rear. also have your eyes reversed on the springs. then depending on the year of your truck, have the eyes reversed on the front springs, then get a dropped axle. you could proubly do all of this for around 500

no if you look in my build i have reversed eyed monos on top of the axles and you do not have to notch the frame but if you flip it and use monos you will need to notch the framein the rear but you can use reversed monos and flip the rear and notch the frame you will close to 8" of drop int the rear and use reversed monos and a 3" drop axle in the front you will have 7" drop in the front

I think the monos are a good way to go. They come with new bushings installed.
I had my spring eyes reversed, bought new bushings, etc., 3" dropped axle. If I was to do it again I would start with the monos.
My rears are reversed eyes and dearched. I might lower it some more by removing a leaf or changing the perch position. I will need to c-notch the frame if I go any lower. In the end, and axle flip might have been easier in the back....
All in all it's easy to "git 'er down"!!

Mine has a couple leafs removed in back and it sits good and rides smooth. Top of rim is about 1" below the upper fender lip. I wish the front was as easy to lower. (Mine is a 66 Twin-I)
Has anyone just cut one coil off the front springs? Can you still get the camber right or does it change it drastically. I found a 2005 Crown Vic front end complete rotor to rotor for $350, but I am debating if I really want to do all that work.

Steve: There's a member in Arkansas, think his name is Skeleton (sorry I can't remember his screen name, but you can find it with the search function) that has done a nice job with the CV cross member in a slick. Think he just installed a 4.6 with FI and EAOD. Probably the nicest CV install I've seen or heard about.TxSlick66 wrote:I found a 2005 Crown Vic front end complete rotor to rotor for $350, but I am debating if I really want to do all that work.

I am up for the job, and figuring it out is no biggie... I am just trying to justify it since I don;t drive the truck that much. I figure if I DID put the CV front in it, then I would like driving it more and it would get daily driver status...

'' Sorry to intrude. Was just trying to be helpful and show you a well done project. Most people like to see how other people have done things. Guess you're not one of those. I withdraw my 2 cents worth.TxSlick66 wrote:I am up for the job, and figuring it out is no biggie.

Sorry- I did not mean to come across as not appreciating the help. I have researched that install and have followed a couple of them on the net. I was just trying to say that I just don't think that realistically I will ever have time to do it, as much as I would like to

oops! Sorry. I guess I should have started at the beginning of this thread. He's talking about a uni. Obviously, dream beams won't work on that! Oh well....
