The end result I'd like to get to is have an extended cab slick with a longbed, 4 wheel drive, one ton and diesel engine. The best plan being is putting the 65's cab onto a 94-97 F350 chassis.
The 65's cab just isn't in that great of shape. The floors are missing large portions of metal. The doors, fenders, hood, grill and bumpers all have some dents or damage. The roof is oilcanned and has rusted through in spots where holes where drilled and around the clearance lights. None of the glass is good. The right c-piller has a hole rusted through it between the windows. I am really thinking this Supercab is going to be too much work to save.
So... I bought another one! I located it about a month ago and bought it last week while on leave. It was just a short drive from my shop. It's a '64 and the cab looks to be an exact match of the '65. It's a F250 with a 351c and C6 in it from a 70's era Mercury car. Once started it runs really good; I was surprised at the power it has! It does has a little rust in the floor and other parts of the cab but not nearly what the '65 has. All the sheetmetal looks straight. The bondo on the extended cab portion is peeling up and flaking off. You can see a weldment forward of the back window. I hit any rusty or bare metal parts with a wire brush and some rusty metal primer; hence all the brown spots spray painted on. The light green paint is flaking off to reveal a much better applied root beer brown paint over what appears to be the factory light blue. The same light blue seen in the interior. I also found a matching longbed box from a different seller. It's in good shape, but has a few poor rust repairs and minor fixes that need to be done. It had been sandblasted and epoxy primered. I doubt that I would have found a box in better shape though. I neglected to take pics of it before I wrapped it up for the winter.
The plan is still mostly the same; '64 cab on a 94-97 F350 chassis. I'll likely turn the '64 into a 'Custom Cab' using the good parts from the '65. It will be a little while before I start tearing into either truck; my new shop needs a little more work and I have a few other projects that need to get done first.
I painted my shop last week too. The colors in all these old mismatch cans turned into a pleasing greenish color.
I thought he got all slicks in Alaska...
