Any Studebaker Fans?

I'm gonna go look at a '62 Studebaker Hawk GT. It's got the Stude 289 and a 4-speed. I have wanted one of these since I was a little kid!
Any Studebaker fans out there in Slickland?

my dad is a big one, so i guess i inherited a little of that...
sounds like a cool ride and that kinda car aint all that easy to find either.
i have always wanted a an r2(right?) 2 door lark with a 4 speed, a stripper of course with poverty caps and a bench. yup i am weird.

I have always liked the GT Hawks. I liked the looks of the later Daytona hardtops also.
My neighbor has 5 Studes, a 57 Silver Hawk with a 350 / 350 combination and an 8" rear end, a 62 GT Hawk with the Stude 289 / 4 speed combo and 3-1.5-2 ton trucks. The two Hawks and one of the trucks are NICE. Another truck is a tilt deck, in the process of being re-done.
I understand a 4 speed 62 GT Hawk is a somewhat rare piece.

I have been a Stude fan since I was a kid and saw them running them at Bonneville in all kinds of configurations. Then along came that one guy that owns Vintage Air, (Can't remember his name), that took a 55 to a Nascar shop and had them build a complete chassis and drivetrain in it so he could drive it to Bonneville with one of his A/C systems installed in it and run 200 mph with the A/C on, and drive it home. It was Black and Gold and a badass ride. The 53-55 Commander Hardtop coupes are my favorites, but I also like the 56-57 Golden and Silver Hawks. Those bodies were so far ahead of their time they made most of the other cars look like boxes. Only Stude I ever drove was a 63 Lark with a V8 and 3 in the tree. Ran pretty good tho. TR

Owned a 1960 pickup during the late 70s. By the time I sold it, I had installed a 200 CuIn Ford engine that I picked up out of a junkyard. Actually was a nice little basic pickup.

The Hawks and the Avantis were awesome cars, Way, way ahead of their time. Too bad you couldn't say the same about the Lark, which for some reason was what the company decided was their bread and butter.

When I was a kid, and the Beatles immediately stale dated anyone with Brylcreem in his hair, the joke for the greasers was
"He's got more oil in his hair than a Studebaker leaves in a parking lot"...
that was the sad result of Studebaker's demise, at the very end they had Chebby engines

Friend of mine has a 1909 Studebaker.

Love to drive the 4 horses on it. It's heeeavy.

He told me Studebaker made more wagons than they did cars. There's your useless trivia for the day.

I have a StudeBaker tractor. Actually it is a Gravely model L but the ID tag reads The Studebaker Company.

OK, here are the pictures I promised a couple days ago. These rigs all belong to my neighbor, Bob.
The '57 and the '62 have both won Best of Show and People's Choice at Studebaker International meets. Both cars have been driven from the Pacific Northwest to Indiana (home of Studebaker) on multiple occasions.

The '62 GT is driven regularly. It was finished abour 10 years ago and has about 30,000 miles since completion. The engine is an Avanti R-1, from a real Avanti. 289", 4 barrel, with a little hotter cam than the standard engine. The trans is a Borg Warner T-10 and the rear end is a Spicer 44.

The '57 Hawk was completed about 15 years ago. It too is used on a regular basis. About 5 years ago Bob replaced the Stude drivetrain with more serviceable parts. A crate 350 / 350 engine and trans and an 8" Ford rear end. Power steering and Vintage Air make it a nice cruiser. He has logged about 5,000 miles since the swap and over 35,000 miles since the original restoration.

The '51 is a dump truck. It was complete October, 08. It's first outing was to a car show in Portland, Oregon, where it was awarded Best of Show. It was originally a six cylinder truck, now has a Stude 289 V8, 4 speed trans with a 2 speed rear axle.
Bob has logged about 1,500 miles with it in the last year. He says it seems like a lot more.

'56 project truck. Bob plans to haul one of the Hawks with this rig, when it is done. It has a Stude 289, 5 speed trans with a 2 speed rear.

Have a chance to pick up a couple stude, trucks, don't know what year they are or what shape they are in. I just don't think I want another project that is not a short uni with a big back window.

Oh I love driving a good team. I'd almost rather drive a team than ride a single horse. I used to tell folks, why ride ONE when I can drive FOUR?

I know where at least one studie pickup maybe two is sitting. dono how much he would want 4 them .Its a salvage yard but not really in business.Its hard to explain its owned by a father and son who don't really care if they sell anything or not. Now the father is in hospice and soon the son will have all the rigs but not sure if hes really going to try and work it or just let them sit.

I do know that they are more willing to sell them to people who are fixing them up for themselves as a project,But if they think for a second that you are just brokering them to sell on the internet the deals off. the son ran a guy off that had a digital camera because he thought he was going to post one on ebay and then come get it when it sold. This is sounding more back woods every sentence. well..........it really is! It also helps if you hold your chaw in the appropriate side of your mouth. LOL

I can kinda see where there coming from,they love the old cars and trucks and want to see blue collar guys drive them, not, merchandised and end up in some stinkin museum. or sitting next to the bently. lovie I got to have it!!

anyway there I go talking out the head AGAIN!! NICE STUDIES!!!!

Well, as is my luck the, the '62 Hawk was a rusty POS. Why are people such scammers? I guess all original, great condition, is up for interpretation for some folks. The hunt continues...I found a couple at www.countryclassiccars.com Illinois is quite a drive for my slick and trailer...

Car is fairly clean for being 49 years old. some surface rust in a couple spots but nothing through the metal. Trunk and floor boards are rock solid. All glass is in tact and in good shape. All chrome is on the car. Interior is decent.

Mechanically the car seems very good. We have had it for about a month and a half....my dad bought it on a whime. It starts right up, no smoke, runs like a damn sewing machine. Trans shifts okay, all lights work, wipers work, etc. My dad has been driving it back and forth to work regularly with no issues. Brakes are good but they are not power

I think this would make a sweet rat rod or sleeper with a small block (they actually were availible with a V-8). Its pretty small and cant weigh all that much

Looking for $2250 obo. Trades possible welcome.
