Anyone need a cheap computer?

Post by ripsnorter »

I went to a going out of business auction about a month ago and bought 4 computers for pretty cheap. They had around 50 there, I could have bought more but I couldn't think of any others that needed cheap computers.

I sold all of my extras already to friends, so I don't have any now, but I go to a lot of these auctions and may have another chance at some.

If I happen across them again, does anyone want me to buy one for them? With shipping to my friends around the US it's been around $80 to $100.

They were good computers, relatively new, custom built, from 2.5 GHz dual core CPU and up in speed. For those of you that aren't normally messing with computers, basically they're only a few years old and still very good. No guarantee that anything else I come across will be that fast, but they should be decent.

It wasn't until the other day that I came back here and remembered that Iceman needed a computer. Sorry buddy, I would have saved you one and sent it to you for free if I would have remembered :(

I'm not trying to make money on anybody, but I can pick up a few extras if I run across them again if anyone wants one.

Well, the ones I got last time were:

2.5 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 4

512 MB DDR RAM

Asus mini-ATX motherboard with onboard graphics but AGPx8 slot available

as the slowest.

The fastest one I got, which I actually replaced my main box with, was:

3 GHz Pentium D (socket 775) Dual Core L2x2MB cache,

1 GB DDR2 RAM

Asus motherboard with PCI-E x 16 graphics slot.

There was also a 3.2Ghz mixed in there, but the 3 had 2MB L2 and better overclocking. Also a 9200 Graphics card mixed in there.

All retail components, 80GB SATA drives, (I replaced that in mine, it's a decent system drive though)

There's no guarantee I'll get anything like that again though, but that's what I got last time.

I actually could have bought some slower machines (1.8Ghz single cores, etc) for $5 each and could have gotten probably 20 of them at that price.

They were basically good solid workstations with the drives wiped. A few had the XP Pro stickers though.

No monitors included, I was picking up 19" LCDs for around $35 though.

Like I said, not trying to make money, but I know some of you guys don't know anything about computers, could care less, and don't want to shell out $2,000 just to browse for truck specs and pics.
