Slick sold at Barrett-Jackson today...

Hey everyone,

I was watching some live Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas today and thought I saw a Slick in the background. So I looked it up and what do you know, a '65 F100 sold for $24,500 today.

I saw the slick in the background but couldn't stand to wait for it to run through. I shut it off when some woman paid $110,000 for a '63 Galaxie knock-off of Barney Fife's cop car from Mayberry! If that car is worth 110K, our slicks should bring 200 all day!

Nice truck on the outside but the engine was just plain upgrades and a flexible upper radiator hose. They could have done better and many of the people on this forum have much better looking trucks than that.

I agree, grossly over priced. Perhaps I should take my 56 big window there and see what it would bring.

Funny, I thought value/price was what a seller was willing to sell for and a buyer willing to pay. Price/Value is sort of like "beauty", it's in the eye of the beholder or in the case the seller. I doubt the seller thinks it was "overpriced". Just sayin....

what i hate about some of the outrageous prices that B-J draws is it affects the prices of the trucks you see sitting out in a field. a $400 truck becomes $1400 because they saw the auction.

That's OK, they're probably not willing to sell them anyway, they're going to restore it one day

That auction is about 2 1/2 miles up the road from work. We have a self serve car wash accross the parking lot from the store. The only thing I saw over there today getting cleaned up was a 57 Chevy Nomad. Had a 63-64 Coupe de Ville over there yesterday getting cleaned up for the sale.
Didn't see any Slicks though.

When did the definition of "restored" change?
I always thought that it meant---"as original"
I can understand repop parts, but shouldn't they be what was originally on the vehicle.
By this new definition---a clone is a "restored" vehicle.
I suppose my Corvette yellow Uni with fuel injected small block, bucket seats/console, modern electronics, LEDs and halogens is now "restored"

They have watered down the true meaning so bad that a truly restored vehicle is unwanted, or at least not getting the respect it deserves.

I think this is great for us... that will buoy up the prices on our trucks. Plus the prices for Boss 302's was down... I would sell my truck in a heartbeat for that kind of coin to get a cheap Boss 302!

I watched some of it last night. Was mentally kicking my old man for when we watched an original Cobra go thru a local sale for a LOT less than $440,000, and the old man turns to me and says "Who would want THAT noisy little clanger anyway?"

I look at the B-J Auctions similarly to the way I look at the cable "news shows" or a Victoria's Secret fashion show. They are for entertainment value and have no relationship to reality nor events in the "real world".

Also, auctions tend to turn people into idiots and they wind up paying outrageous prices because (I guess) the thrill of the chase or to impress a lady. Good for them to be able to afford those outrageous prices. I'll never be able to spend that kind of money for a vehicle nor do I want to. Sort of like: "I'd like to be able to afford do cocaine". I don't want to do cocaine, I would just like to have the money and I'd spend it on my slicks.

You're correct. In today's e-bay, twitter, facebook world, some words no longer used in their original and intended context. "Restored" is apparently one of them. NOS is running a close second.
