1966 with toolbox option
Hello. My 17 yr old son is getting ready to buy a 1966 F100 long bed with the tool box option located in the lower section of the passenger side. Does anyone know about this option? The truck has 90,000 orig. miles, is a one owner, 352, appears to be all original. It looks burgundy. Very nice body, with only minor rust in a couple of spots. The engine code is Y, but most sites show Y as a later year code. The truck is like the one my Dad had when I was a boy. My son is very close to his paw paw, so he's very excited to have found this truck in such great shape. We're going to work on it together and are hoping my Dad can come up and help. Hoping to be a Slick 60 owner in a few days.

Tool boxes came two ways, Factory installed or purchased at the parts counter, which could be installed by the dealers body shop.
There are two kits for 1964/66
C4TZ-9946132-A .. Short Bed Tool box Kit
C4TZ-9946132-B .. Long Bed Tool Box Kit
These boxes could be ordered for any 1964/72 Styleside although the bumpsides use a C7. same number but not the same box.
I would definitely tell him to go for it. Is this a first ride?
These old trucks don't really compare to newer handling IMO and it's hard for the younguns (myself included) to use it as a DD unless it's all you've got.
Oh and also count yourself lucky on the family project and make sure you keep everyone involved, you may not think much of it now but your son will appreciate it some day. It's fine to keep it a driver but I would say to keep finding things to fix together (whether it needs it or not, just work on the project together) It will be more special if it has memories.

... Welcome to the club from West Virginia. Where are you located?? Sounds like a good set up. I got my son started young and Old is what he wants. He turns 17 in Dec. He just traded his first acquisition, a '67 lwb f-250, for a '78 Monza. Not a ford but still old and a little sporty for a 16 year old kid than a lwb truck. I enjoy haveing him around to help me and I enjoy helping and teaching him... Keep us up to date on what you do...

My first slick was a 1963 wrong box shorty that belonged to my grandfather. I too was very close to him. It was sold out of the family when I was about eight. someone in town had bought the truck, and I used to spot the truck sitting on the side of the street all the time. Well, couple of years later I got a paper route, and saved every penny I could get my hands on. When I was about 14, the owner agreed to sell It to me for 800 dollars. I was tthe happiest kid in the world at the time. Some years later, I sold the truck (for beer money I think it was) and to this day, I will never forgive myself. A boys bond with his grandfather Is a very very special thing and I hope you guys buy this truck, your son is probably feeling the same way I did 20 years ago. Anyway, I just thought I would share that.
