ITS FINALLY HERE!!

Post by jammck66 »

well, we left ar 4:30am on saturday to get my new slick. drove all day, loaded it up and drove back all night. finally got home at 5am on sunday.
but its finally here!
found out that the cab mounts are completley toast, as well as the cab corners and floorpans. so I may be looking for a whole new cab.
I will post pics asap.

If you can't find a cab.... anything is fixable. they make replacement panels for almost everything. Check out my before pic in my sig. I looked for a short while for another cab. I already had 2 and this was the best one I had. shrug.gif with patfience, a cutter, and a welder anything can be fixed!

although a new cab would sure be easier than spending the countless hours in the garage fighting it.

When do we get to see the pics???

I agree with anthony, the panels can be fixed. i am fairly handy with a mig welder and plasma cutter, although i do not have A LOT of confidence with them, i know what i am doing. and considering it is my grandpas truck, i am still not big on the idea of trashing the cab. blood, sweat, and "beers" is the name of the game here. so I will prolly end up patching everything.
the pics can be seen on wednesday, as my stupid computer at home wont resize them to <500kb. so I'll wait until i get to work.

I cut and copied your photobucket img code (less the Img's at beginning and end) and found a box to the lower left that had the Img code in it. left click the box beside the words IMG code to turn blue and right click to copy then return to your post and right click to paste.

I love the inline sixes and like the looks of the original oil bath air cleaner. ditch the single bowl master though and get a double. (safety, safety, safety) Truck looks solid, looks like a good start to me. congrats on the truck,

I will post my "to do list" soon I'm still building it in microsoft word. I could use some input as this is my first ground up build. (on my budget and discretion)

nice! Since it was your grandfathers truck, it'll be even more special to you. What are you planning on doing to it?

well, first off I need to learn the "lingo" around here, I've been reading posts non stop, I practically live on fordtruk.com
then I plant on blasting the frame, painting black. new leafs out back and all new bushings w/ lowering springs (not too low, just to give it that cruiser look) and disc conversion for the front. my fatherin laws 428CJ W/C6. two buckets outta my 78 bronco. 17" rims, rollpan and some deep candy red paint. (maybe not candy, but deep red.) and the list goes on and on and on............................................... :D

If your going to do the frame check out "chassis coat" and "por-15" both of these are better than paint for the frame in my opinion, harder to chip and seals the frame real well. Some have powder coated, but I couldn't do that in my garage. I used the chassis coat. (it was close to $40 cheaper than por-15) I started researching the por-15 and came up with these other items....
and went with what I felt was comparable on my budget.

The truck looks good, if you are looking for some parts that are available through Dennis Carpenter, there is an agent in Stony Plain who Hoofbeatracer dealt with. Mark has good things to say about him, the contact for him is George Moir Antique Auto Parts Ltd 780-963-7334

I'll second the last comment by Dean... the guys at George Moir have treated me pretty well too! I've mostly dealt with Dwayne.

As a matter of fact, I'm about to head out the garage to install the new fuel gauge sending unit I received in the mail from them today.

Cheers,
Dion
