Volare install thread

I read a thread on a site (?) that had excellent pictures of the trimming and welding of the Volare into a Ford frame. For the life of me I can not find it again. The guys used the templates from Bob's F100 (I think), there was two guys working in the fotos. Just can't remember what site it was on, have looked at too many over the last couple of weeks since I got the Unibody home....anyone help? Thanks, Bill

No-Limit Engineering has Volare templates, also. Google Volare F-100 with Custom Classic Trucks or Classic Trucks and you might find an install article. Are you sure you want a Volare, they are a pretty invasive way to go.

John, did one into a 48 F-1. Road just great, got it down into the weeds just like I wanted and had no problems with it. Just wanted to re-look the pictures to decide how far apart to take the truck before I start. Trying to save a little six pack engineering time as well. Want to try and have it ready for the F-100 Nats in Knoxville this spring. I have hit the goggle thing with a couple of searches and still have not found the one I'm looking for....Thanks, Bill

Bill,
I know of a guy that did a volare clip in his 53, and when I talked to him about it he suggested not doing it. Since then I have purchased a truck with the volare under it, and it will be changed out and fairly soon. They guy I talked to said it was not worth putting in the volare, only reason he did was it was given to him. And my short uni with it in, wallows as you drive down the road. The Crown Vic is a good choice, and would be much easier and quicker install.

The guy that installed my volare IFS hacked up the frame badly, limiting what I can do with it now. But if you are set with this front end, here is a link. http://www.carnut.com/tech/61sub/61sub1.html

Then you know what I'm talking about it takes a big chunk outta things. I've got a Volare in a '56 frame, i stuffed under my '53 F-100. I installed Fatman drop spindles to put the tension where it should be, but haven't finished the truck to see how good they work. I'm dying to find out. Also am hoping to see if they fix the bumpsteer dropped Volares pick up.

Oh, and the F-100 Supernats are going to be in Pigeon Forge again, no more Knoxville from what I've heard.

John I know what I'm looking at, I'll have to scan some of the photos of my 48 and see if I can figure how to post them....I say some because I was not too good at taking shots back then, didn't figure anyone would be interested in my junk.....

I have done a few of these IFS swaps. They are sooooo much better than the Camaro clip in my 56 panel truck. Hey, it weas cheap and popular at the time. The Volare' has been a standard for years and there is some aftermarket support out there. No Limit used to sell a video for the Volare' install on a 53-56 but it still work on our trucks as the frames are the same width.
My son's 63 was his daily driver for 3 years and it has a 85 Diplomat (Vloare) in it. It has been a great truck for him. If we built it today, it would have an Aerostar or Jaguar IFS in it.
