Dash knob inserts
Dash knob inserts
I found a neat knob insert at lowes, listed as nylon hole
plugs. They are made by Hillman, so am sure lots of stores
sell them. size is 9/16 part # 139460 black I painted mine
silver. trim off the snaps to hold in metal and a little glue.
the best part pack of 2 about $1

thanks for all the info,Im missing a few, think i will try to make some,I got a few from the junk yard but not in the greatest shape, marbles sound cool also
Re: Dash knob inserts
I wanted to thank you for the lowes tip. I went looking for the plastic ones you mentioned but ended up getting some chrome ones they had.
I think they turned out well and fit in perfect... $1 a piece.
Kindly,
Danny

Re: Dash knob inserts
what size chrome was that, i was wondering if those would fit or if they would pop out. did you cut the tabs off the inside or just glue them?

Re: Dash knob inserts
Gregg,
I glued them in. However, they did stay in fine on their own. I just wanted to make sure they wouldn't ever fall out.
They're the 5/8'' size. Item number 139402.

One person used dimes matching the year of the truck. I thought that was pretty cool. Lots of inovative thinking going on here. Love this site!

Re: Dash knob inserts
This is my entry into the world of "what to do when the original knob inserts are gone". I built it up to look close to original, but made it glow in the dark with 12 hour strontium aluminate glow compound. I want to do all of the dash knobs like this. This is the lighter.
And this is what it looks like in the dark!

Now that's a great Idea Dan, better than just grabbing in the dark.
