while i was out our puter broke.
had a friend of ours work on it, needed a new network card.
also had been having many windows issues so he installed linux mint and got rid of all things windows.
he also was able to get back all the pics lost in a previous crash.
thing works great now, still getting used to some of the new features but i think its far better than x-puke.

I will stick with my PC, don't hate MAC I'm just used to PC and really don't think one is better. I have however considered switching to Linux for quite some time.
1964 F 100 - I am going to do "something" with it.......
I've used Macs (at work and school) for 20 years now and in my little graphics world - they are MUCH better than PC's ever thought they could be. So of course I'm biased to them quite a bit.
PC's will eventually turn on you and make you hurt real bad.

I've been noticing alot of things going on the internet. Mostly with my Craiglist searches but other things also. Mianly the problems with Craiglist searches these don't turn up all the hits. You have to do the individual searches to find everything. I will search and turn up hits I hadn't seen before, but will come here and see trucks others have found not on my search. I found one camper special in Georgia with camper someone had linked to an another forum. I have been doing searches for the truck in the previous two or three days and it never showed up. I did more searches after that and it still did not show up.
I have worked on computers for over 20 years for living. I also work on both platforms. There is good and bad with both platforms. These posts are from my perspective and experence. I have both macs and windows personally. Some of the things I have noticed.
If you have a windows computer and keep it up they can be as stable as Apple. Notice I said can be.
Apple is a lot easier to use, easier to learn and easier to switch to.
Apple is not as secure platform. I can crack into your apple with no special items,if windows is setup properly I have to take your drive out to crack it and maybe be able to get in. But it has to be set up properly.
Many times the comparable hardware is cheaper for a windows, sometimes Macs to me are almost twice the price over a windows. Macs many times use the same drives screens, cds, the main difference is in the logic boards and that it "looks good".
Windows computers tend to be a heck of a lot to physically to work on. I have seen some apples that takes over an hour to pull a drive while the similar dell only takes 5 minutes.
If you don't keep up your security for windows you will have trouble with viruses. And they are a pain to deal with. Apple does have viruses contrary to what they say but eaiser to deal with.
Windows is a total pain to back up a system, apple is really easy.
Apple is a innovator while windows will then copy it and make it a lot cheaper.
Dealing with Apple as a tech royally sucks regardless of all their ads. I absolitely hate dealing with them. I deal with third party vendors. I even have told their sales reps. When I call them I am on the phone for at leas two hours to be told they can't help. 1hr and 50 minutes of that is being on hold while some kid who hasn't worked on computers more than a few years has to go to their supervisor for info.
Dealing with Dell is great as a tech, I call ,tell them the issue, they ask me if I want a tech out or for them to send the part. 10 minutes at the most and they are sending the part out.
Original replacement parts for Apple run about twice as much as Dell.
Apple has the "cool" factor over windows which has the "work" factor.
Both computers are not as good as the maker claims and not as bad as the competition says.
From experience the windows will usually last longer. In the school enviroment I usually have to junk them at 7 years for apple desktops and about 8 for windows.
The laptops seen to die about the same age regardless of brand.
Apples are not made to experement on hardware. Windows can be. This can be good for some and not good for others.
Forget about upgrading a Apple except for memory or hard drive space. They are desiged to be replaced not upgraded. Some windows boxes are made to be upgraded. I have some of the new dell laptops that are getting as bad as apple to take apart though.
If you have a new macbook they are one of the best designs they have ever come out with. But the display is extremely fragile. Be carefull. I use to replace the old ibook displays at a rate of one or two a year. macbooks I replace at least 2 a month.
IF Apple had licensed their software as windows did my guess most would have never heard of gates or windows. It would have died out. Many times the aloofness of Apple hurts them in this aspect. But on the other hand that aloofness makes diehard fans become members of the "cult of Mac.
Some times the cool look of mac actually causes issues. The older "gumdrop computers they sold around 2000-2003 has plastic that disintergrates. One of the main reasons I junk them now is not they can't be fixed its that the plastic in the part that holds the picture tube, yoke and other areas disintergrates easily. They bring out stuff that sometimes becomes a pain, ever tried to replace a battery in a ipod? Most people can't or won't.
Apple does inovate a lot of stuff, ipod,Iphone I pad,etc but then everyone copies it and sells it a lot cheaper.
As far as which I would suggest I say it depends on your needs. I do not prefer one over the other, I just laid down what I have experenced. In fact Apple is about 80% of what I repair. If you are looking into a new one my suggestion is this. If you are looking at a low cost solution, don't mind updating virus and such, need to upgrade over time, and need heavy computing go for windows. If you want a cool design, are into things that is more arts related,i.e. graphic arts,,don't mind paying more for a eaisier to use product go with apple. Both have good and bad points.
all I know is my windows machine picks up viruses everywhere, my ma's mac doesnt even have any protection and to her knowledge has never picked up anything.
And the Mac monopoly is a pain, but it's the computer as a whole you buy, not just the crummy windows OS, so it makes sense they cost more, sadly enough.
