Wheel/Tire Help Please

Post by Troublemaker427 »

I'm starting to think about what my wheel/tire combination will be on my '66 F-100 lwb. I think I'd like to keep the stock hubcaps but run a little larger tire in the back with a 15x8 wheel. I'd keep the stock wheels in the front. What Wheel Vintique wheel should I choose for the back. Is 4" the offset to use? I was considering using a P27560R15 tire on the rear. What size would look good on a stock front wheel?

In the future I am also thinking of lowering the truck with either a DJM or AIM kit. Would using the larger tire in the rear cause a clearance issue if I lower the truck?

The Wheel Vintique "Gennie" series is supposed to work with the stock hubcaps. I've talked with WV on the phone because that is the exact type of wheel I wanted to use on my truck, and still may go that route with the stock caps when the truck is closer to being finished.

4" offset will be fine with P27560R15 tire. Stock is 3 3/4".

Currently I have P27560R15 BFG Radial T/A's mounted on 15x8 Crager V-series (cheap!) wheels, 3-3/4" offset, and I have an inch clearance from the back of the tire to the inside of the wheelwell, and about the same to the fender lip.

You can get the Gennies bare (primed) or powder coated in a variety of colors.

I should have mentioned, my truck is a '62 unibody. There might be differences in the wheelwell clearances. And, my truck is lowered in the rear, about 8 inches, I think (final ride height not yet determined) and there is plenty of vertical clearance.

I have 225x60s on 7s on the front, 275x60s on 8s on the rear - 15" wheels stock backspacing (4"?). With these sizes I'd recommend a 1/4" spacer on the rear - raised letters rub the inside of the wheel house when the axle is angled. Mine is pretty low - about 1 1/4" to the bumpstops on both ends.
Here are pics to show you how they fit, on a Uni anyway.

Hey Troublemaker427.

My 8" rear wheels are centered in the rear wheel well wity 4.5 back space.

8" rear wheels with 4 " backspace had them closer to the inside than the outside.

65 F-100 short wide.

Are you on the FE forums ??

 When I said "offset" above, I meant backspacing!

Winr: If you went to a 4.5" backspace from a 4" backspace, that should move the wheel farther in, not out??

This looks like the wheel I'll go with for the rear.
