speaking of wheels what should i do with my old ones?

Post by dhughins »

i have the old wheels that came on my 62 unibody and was thinking of sandblasting the rusted chrome off of them and painting them a solid color. has anyone done this? any advice? can you sandblast chrome off? i had them for sale for $100 for the set and hadn't had a taker yet. so i was thinking of keeping the as a spare set. i have a friend who will sandblast them for free or near free he does tombstones for a living.

It doesn't have to take the chrome off, just break the shine so paint will stick. I doubt you could blast it all off anyway. There's a process that reverse electroplates it off, but new wheels would probably be cheaper.

New wheels are fine but those are reverse wheels and somebody will want them. They are very popular with teh rat rod crew and they fit Ford cars and trucks back to the 20's! They may be rusty junk to some but to others they are gold. I would expect to get at least $100 for a set like that and maybe more. Hawkrod

I love those wheels! If you were close I'd take them. As to blasting and painting them, there's a tire shop called Les Schwab in the northwest. for 20 to 25 bucks a wheel they will sand blast and powder coat them. Do some looking and you may be able to find someone who will blast them and powder coat them with that near chrome or whatever color you want them.

Were you selling them for a hundred with or without the tires? If I can figure out a way to get em or ship em where it doesn't kill me, I'd take em in a heartbeat.
