PO'ed at my company

Post by jammck66 »

So, recently the oilfield company I work at has encountered an onslaught of viruses and malicious spyware crap that has affected our computers that we do business on and affected our day to day office routines.
So, in an effort to prevent this, they have put up a "web-sense" web filter that blocks in essence EVERYTHING!! I am amazed that I can even visit this site.
I attempted to view my daily funny pics website, blocked under the catagory "crude humor"
I attempted to visit facebook, blocked under the catagory " social networking"
THEN! of all things I tried to view some of your posts where you posted a link to craigslist or ebay, blocked under catagory " SHOPPING"!!!! what BS!! this system may be fine for the guys in the office supposed to be doing work during the day, but, what about us guys who work an 8 in 6 out and are in camp!!!??? we basically have no way to check things out no the net that we normally would at home. ie. ebay, craigslist, facebook, etc etc.
so i wouldnt even be surprised in the least if I couldn't log into sunday nite chat. so If im not around, thats what it is.

there, thats my bitch for the day, thank you for listening.
( on a lighter note, Jen, my wife is coming up for the weekend to visit me and ride around with me on my run. mom and dad have the girls....)

WOW that's bullschit. sounds like highschool.... Sounds to me like they need some VIRUS PROTECTION, not little kid style browsing limits.....

do a google search for bypassing websense.... there's a few options, involving proxy sites that let you sneak out from under the babysitter.

what a pain in the A$$.....

that's effed up dude. Sounds to me like it's time for a chat with the management.... You're not a little kid...

Now if you were whacking off at work, they might have a reason to block you from the porno sites, but this aint cool!

The company I worked for if you went to a website that was not directly work related thaey had the right to terminate you. With all the virus and spyware out there you are lucky they let you use it at all.
I got my computer crashed when I looked at a yahoo map that had a hidden spyware attached to a pop up.
I worked in the oilfield business back in the 80's I only wish we had a computer to help when we were out. We could just play card and smoke.

Just a suggestion, Can you not buy your own laptop with a webcard for personal use during your down time? You might even be able to make money from it by selling time to your coworkers while you are working.
As my dad used to say, somewhere there was a horse that died a painful death from terminal constipation due to missing a key part of its anatomy.

I would share my computer with few people. Bad enough with family.

Yes, we have consulted our foreman, there is a NON-network supported computer system in the works. ( probably an aircard) but the cell service out here is NILL without a decent booster system with an aerial.
Its not the fact that we cant visit porn sites or other stuff. Its that we are here 24/7 for 8 days straight, and cant even "communicate" with the outside world. i enjoy scrolling through ebay, summit, craigslist. etc. hunting for cool parts and rides.

That`s funny!, a mate of mine worked for an American oil company in Libya for 3 years in the early 70`s. He can still recite the labels of sauce bottles, cigarette packets and matches!, now that must of been boring!
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

Man, I hope (know) the money is good.
I would be stark raving in camp for 8 days and nothing but snow and Rig pigs to look at...
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

wilson wireless makes a pretty good cell booster James. Its what I have in my truck. Sorry to hear bout the computer woes. Our guys would die without their net at work. LOL. Fortuantely we have a pretty kick a$$ radio sytem that gives us ultra high speed in the bush. Our foreman is pretty high tech. I can control the entire HMI and SCADA from my house in town. Our guys run their entire field from tablet PCs and aircards from their trucks. Tough to explain the degree of isolation that we work in. good luck

Mark, most operators can only dream of such technology. we have SCADA here, but nothign that high tech. I used to be able to remote log in to the plant i worked at in chinchaga, i could open and close valves, and start/stop pumps and compressors with the click of a mouse from anywhere.
