question about a part

Post by Pure Country »

hey guys,

I am looking for a part for my '61 F100. The diagram on the NPD site called it a seal for the clutch rod. It is the rubber grommet type covering that covers the hole in the floorboard where the clutch rod runs through. I cant seem to find the part on the LMC website and NPD said it is no longer available. Can you help me out.

It's just a die cut piece of flat rubber - there are slits that allow you to slip it over the column and clutch rod. You could cut one yorself with a good pair of shop scissors or razor knife - just use the metal plates as a pattern.
I think I have a new one here somewhere - better make a pattern of it for the "hints" section.

Clutch Rod Seal

That seal is the same for all Ford trucks to 79. Dennis Carpenter sells them. But you could easily make one!

WRONG,WRONG,WRONG Clutch seals are not the same and if you read Carpenters books does not say that either !!! 61-64 steering column to floor seal covers that for the clutch at the same time,, 65-67 is the same with a metal plete in it ,then 68-mid 71 , then 71-79 is how they fit

Tom,
just took this apart on my 61 uni yesterday, there is a separate boot with a metal ring in the removable plate where the rod/column goes thru, it screws into the removable piece.

if someone runs across a source for these please post i need a replacement too.

clutch seal

Thanks for the tips and hints. I am still looking for a replacement part, but I may have to make a quick fix from flat rubber. I think I have an old bed mat somewhere. If y'all happen to run across the replacement just let me know

Brian on the ones we took apart it had small screws around both plates,, one plate off to the right of column comes off easy the other one has the slot for clutch rod to go through plate and rubber all one shape but never seen another plate and not a place for it but ofcourse over the years that extra plate could have fallen off or in 1961 where like that then changed it since 61 was the beginning of the slick era...
