Finally....Getting started!!!

Got to play with my slick today...
Had the wife help me get the bed off....What fun that was!!!!

Should get a few hours of metal work in before work tomorrow.
Floor of bed is shot!!

And so it begins!!......for me......

She dont think i'll make it in time for Slick Stock...

But we'll see..

Sure wish I had a clutterd Garage to complain about..

Hey that rust look familiar. Mine had the same but it was all the way across front end on the bed. I fixed mine the hard way....on the frame.
I cut a section out of my '71 donor and welded it in along with the bed rail.

Before


I cut it all the way to the wheel wells. This was the first cut.


Before I welded it in. don't have a pic of my weld job. That may be a good thing since I'm using my brothers welder and I'm not use to it.

Ribs aren't exactly the same but they're close enough. Going to be hidden by the tool box anyways.

Oh and I'm still on my honey do list. Waiting on some paint to dry is the reason I'm lurking around here.

I was thinking the same thing. replace the front with a donor, then cover the area with a box or move the gas tank back there and convert the 8ft bed to a usable 6ft with a false wall

Hey Paranoid Ill see if I can dig up some pics of my start on my Slick 4x4. They are all shots of me working on the truck in my backyard. Had no other place to do it and I was younger and broker. I once asked my neighbor who faced my backyard on the side street if all my truck parts back there bothered them. They said no it was interesting for them to try and guess what I would do next.

See honey, you are not the only one without a garage. I like the positive feedback about all the extra light you get and it doesn't cost anything. You just need to figure out how to keep the bugs off the paint.

Light isn`t everything!, you do need shade as well!, you don`t want his skin being parched in the sun with possibilities of skin cancer do you!, might make a nice fathers day present

I keep seeing beds upside down for work on the bottom side are you just rolling it up on to the leading edge and then upside down or what I am afraid of hurting the sheetmetal.

I didnt let the bed sit on the ground in the upright position..
Having done this with just the wife to help..
I put a saw horse on each side... even with the wheel wells..

Make sure you slide the bed away from the cab befor lifting.

While I was holding the tail of the bed up, the wife ran a a 2x6 under it and rested it on the horses....
Then it didnt take much to hold the front up while she pulled out from under it......

I then sat the front down and stood it up to it's balance point, had the wife hold it there while i ran to the other side and had her push it to me
She got scared!! And I was scared for her...
When she pushed it over to me!!!
I just about dropped one of my boy's!!!
Heavier than expected!!!!

You are right, Alan. I don't want the truck to get sunburnt, LOL. I think he needs an awning like Ezernut has.
