wow, I am impressed. My experience with patching sheet metal has been a misreable failure.

Usually ends up with me cutting to large of a piece, then trimming it to small. Then culminates with me beating it with a hammer.

How are you cutting the patch panels? cut off wheel? plasma? snips?

Hi hungarymonkey, i use a 1mm cutting disc in my 4" grinder and some times tin snipes.i make a template with card board and then trace around that onto the panel steel or mark it out with a pencil and rule,i then use masking tape and run that aound the line i marked out as a guide for the grinder and cut to that edge ,
i mark out the section on the cab first i want to replace and make my repair section to get the shape right .
try to cut the rusty section smaller then the new section so you can trim it to fit .
with welding the section in you have take your time spot weld that first side took me 2 days of and on so it would not warp,i hope this helps you.
