Ranger seats???
Ranger seats???
I logged on to the forum this evening and saw a few posts on the Rangers.
If I wanted to yank out my bench seat and put in the Ranger seats, is that a direct bolt in? Are the Ranger seats the same as a mustang seats, just different tracks?

Cam is absolutely correct in his comment. Indeed they are the Mustang buckets and are the standard interior seats. The seat track is also the same as the Mustang, the difference is the riser. The Mustang seat set low on the floor, the F 100's seat sat higher and has a riser attached to the seat track to raise the seat. Buy a set of risers from Slickcollector and get yourself a set of 65 66 Mustang seats and you will be in business. You will have to drill four extra holes in the floor for the inside seat tracks. The outside tracks use the same holes as the bench seat.

When you find the seats be prepaired to rebuild them, unless they are pristine. I thought I had a nice pair, but when I removed the covers to change colors I found the frames covered with surface rust. The burlap on the springs was very rotten and the foam was in pretty good condition for a 45 year old seat. Nothing broken or rusted through, just a lot of surface rust. Sacramento Mustang will do seat covers for you in any color, including none Mustang colors for about $180.00. The company that actually does the covers is TMI, also in California. TMI will send you swatches to choose a color you like. Great to do business with. Also, be sure to get the seat tracks with the seats. These run about $56 a seat on Evilbay. The foam (called seat buns) can be found on Ebay for a good price. Many of the Mustang restoration companies sell them for a variety of prices, usually about $90 for the four you need. CJ Mustang (on the net) sells most of the special bolts, springs, etc and do not charge shipping. If you have not reupholstered a seat before this will be a real learning experience for you. Both the seat and back have two "U" shaped wires. One in the seat cover and one behind the foam and the springs. These hold the cover back in place. There are several sites on the net that have photos and instructions on how to install the seat covers and rebuild the seat tracks. However, this is a job that can be easily accomplished in your shop and will give a great deal of satisfaction when someone asks, Who did your upholstery?" and you can say, "ME!"
I learned the above because I decided I wanted a Ranger clone. Oh, also the Falcon console can be found on Ebay or Craigslist. I found mine on Craigslist in town and didn't have to pay shipping and I was able to see the console before I bought it. Also, Slickcolector on this site has the brackets for the gas tank cover used on the Ranger Package. Michelle is the source for info on the Rangers and will be glad to help you out when you have a question.
So, go for it and we expect to see your Ranger clone at Slick Stock in 88 days!!

Just a minor point, the seat tracks are not the same as a Mustang. You can use Mustang ones in a truck but you can't use truck ones in a Mustang. The Mustang tracks have longer threaded studs that go through the floor. On a truck the studs only go through the brackets so they are much shorter. It is basically a cosmetic issue but it makes it easy to spot fakes if they did not cut them off (and most people don't!). HawkrodMichelle wrote:Cam is absolutely correct in his comment. Thanks for the tip Hawk, I will keep the seat stud length in mind when checking out trucks that may be faked. Also I had noticed that on my truck the studs in the seat tracks had acorn nuts on them instead if just a bare nut on them.

You want a console out of a 64 or 65 Falcon or Comet. Please note, you will have to cut the botton of a Falcon or Comet console to fit you truck, The trucks have different cuts on the botton depending on the size transmission hump you have. Also a console from a Comet or Falcon convertible will not work as they are cut altogether different than the hard top cars.simonscr wrote:Casey 65 mentioned using a falcon center console. What year of falcon am I looking for? The uncle that gave me the 65 has a 64 2 door hardtop and has had 2 parts car, may have a extra console that I could use.

The extra four holes are for the two inside seat risers that your seats sit on.ABA wrote:What are the extra holes in the cab floor for ?Michelle wrote:Cam is absolutely correct in his comment. Not sure I am following this right, Michelle - Do 65-66s have holes pre-drilled in the cab floors for the inside seat brackets? You don't need to drill? I ask because I am out of town, and not near my Slicks (planning to do Mustang seats in my F250, and about to order the seat brackets from Jim) to look for myself. The extra four holes are for the two inside seat risers that your seats sit on.

Unless your truck is an original Ranger it will not have the extra holes in the floor. It will only have the holes with nut plates for the bench seat that are located on the left and right sides of the cab floor. For the bucket seats you will need four extra holes drilled toward the center of the cab for the inside tracks of the bucket seats. The bucket seats will sit on a riser to raise them off the floor whereas in the Mustang they sit flat on the floor. Each bucket seat has four mounting bolts holding it to the floor, two for each side of the seat, Two of these holes (the ones close to the door) are already drilled and are the same ones used for the bench seat. The two holes near the center of the cab for the inside of each seat are the ones you will need to drill.Thunderboy wrote:Not sure I am following this right, Michelle - Do 65-66s have holes pre-drilled in the cab floors for the inside seat brackets? Your extra holes at the back of the cab in the center with rubber plugs are for seat belts. All 61 to 66 cabs have them

ABA,
Seat belts were first offered as options by Chrysler and Ford in 1955 on their 1956 models. By 1965 all US auto manufacturers were providing lap belts in front outboard positions. In 1967 National Highway Safety Board issued the initial Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 208, 209, which set standards for lap and shoulder belts in front outboard positions, and lap belts in all other positions (effective January 1, 1968 and March 1967, respectively). The Federal laws applied to all manufacturers of new vehicles for sale in the US; seat belt usage laws are state laws that vary by state. I didn't know either so I looked it up. The link to FMVSS 210 (below) has seatbelt attachment/anchorage info in the back.
